Book 10: Call to Prayers (Adhaan) · Hadith 96
Hadith text
Narrated `Amr:Jabir bin `Abdullah said, "Mu`adh bin Jabal used to pray with the Prophet (ﷺ) and then go to lead his people in prayer Once he led the `Isha' prayer and recited Surat "Al-Baqara." Somebody left the prayer and Mu`adh criticized him. The news reached the Prophet (ﷺ) and he said to Mu`adh, 'You are putting the people to trial,' and repeated it thrice (or said something similar) and ordered him to recite two medium Suras of Mufassal." (`Amr said that he had forgotten the names of those Suras)
Amr bataate hain ke Jabir bin Abdullah ne kaha: "Mu'adh bin Jabal Nabi ke saath namaz padhte aur phir apni qaum ki imamat karne jaate. Ek baar unhone Isha ki imamat ki aur Surah Al-Baqarah tilawat ki. Kisi ne namaz chhod di, Mu'adh ne uski buraai ki. Yeh baat Nabi tak pahunchi, unhone Mu'adh se farmaya: 'Tum logon ko fitne mein daal rahe ho,' aur teen baar (ya isi jaisi baat) dohrayi, aur unhe Mufassal ki do darmiyani Surahtein padhne ka hukum diya." (Amr ne kaha unhe un Surahton ke naam yaad nahi rahe.)
