Book 11: Friday Prayer · Hadith 11
Hadith text
Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar:`Umar bin Al-Khattab saw a silken cloak (being sold) at the gate of the Mosque and said to Allah's Apostle, "I wish you would buy this to wear on Fridays and also on occasions of the arrivals of the delegations." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "This will be worn by a person who will have no share (reward) in the Hereafter." Later on similar cloaks were given to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and he gave one of them to `Umar bin Al-Khattab. On that `Umar said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! You have given me this cloak although on the cloak of Atarid (a cloak merchant who was selling that silken cloak at the gate of the mosque) you passed such and such a remark." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "I have not given you this to wear". And so `Umar bin Al-Khattab gave it to his pagan brother in Mecca to wear
Abdullah bin Umar (رضی اللہ عنہما) bataate hain ke Umar bin Khattab ne masjid ke darwaze par ek resham ka chogha (bikte huye) dekha aur Allah ke Rasool se kaha: "Kaash aap ise khareed lein, Jumme ke din aur wafdon ke aane ke mauqon par pehnne ke liye." Allah ke Rasool ne jawab diya: "Ise woh shaks pehnega jiska Aakhirat mein koi hissa nahi hoga." Baad mein Allah ke Rasool ko isi tarah ke chogha tohfe mein mile, unhone ek Umar bin Khattab ko diya. Umar ne kaha: "Ya Rasoolallah! Aapne mujhe yeh chogha diya jabke Atarid (ek chogha bechne wala jo yehi resham chogha masjid ke darwaze par bech raha tha) ke chogha ke baare mein aapne aisi baat kahi thi." Allah ke Rasool ne jawab diya: "Maine yeh tumhe pehnne ke liye nahi diya." To Umar bin Khattab ne ise Mecca mein apne mushrik bhai ko pehnne ke liye de diya.
