Sahih al-Bukhari 1002

Hadith text

Narrated `Asim:I asked Anas bin Malik about the Qunut. Anas replied, "Definitely it was (recited)". I asked, "Before bowing or after it?" Anas replied, "Before bowing." I added, "So and so has told me that you had informed him that it had been after bowing." Anas said, "He told an untruth (i.e. "was mistaken," according to the Hijazi dialect). Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) recited Qunut after bowing for a period of one month." Anas added, "The Prophet (ﷺ) sent about seventy men (who knew the Qur'an by heart) towards the pagans (of Najd) who were less than they in number and there was a peace treaty between them and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (but the Pagans broke the treaty and killed the seventy men). So Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) recited Qunut for a period of one month asking Allah to punish them

Asim bataate hain: "Maine Anas bin Malik se Qunut ke baare mein pucha. Anas ne jawab diya: 'Zaroor (padhi jaati thi).' Maine pucha: 'Ruku se pehle ya baad mein?' Anas ne jawab diya: 'Ruku se pehle.' Maine kaha: 'Falaan shaks ne mujhe bataya ke aapne unhe bataya tha yeh ruku ke baad thi.' Anas ne kaha: 'Usne galat baat kahi (yaani ghalti ki, Hijazi lehje mein).' Allah ke Rasool ne ek mahine tak ruku ke baad Qunut padhi." Anas ne joda: "Nabi ne taqreeban sattar aadmi (jo Quran hifz karte the) mushrikon (Najd ke) ki taraf bheje, jo tadaad mein unse kam the, aur unke aur Allah ke Rasool ke darmiyan sulah ka mu'ahida tha (magar mushrikon ne mu'ahida tod kar un sattar logon ko qatl kar diya). Isliye Allah ke Rasool ne ek mahine tak Qunut padhi, Allah se unhe saza dene ki dua karte huye."
