Sahih al-Bukhari 52

Hadith text

Narrated An-Nu'man bin Bashir: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying, 'Both legal and illegal things are evident but in between them there are doubtful (suspicious) things and most of the people have no knowledge about them. So whoever saves himself from these suspicious things saves his religion and his honor. And whoever indulges in these suspicious things is like a shepherd who grazes (his animals) near the Hima (private pasture) of someone else and at any moment he is liable to get in it. (O people!) Beware! Every king has a Hima and the Hima of Allah on the earth is His illegal (forbidden) things. Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart

Nu'man bin Bashir (رضی اللہ عنہ) se riwayat hai ke maine Allah ke Rasool (ﷺ) ko farmate suna: "Halal bhi zahir hai aur haram bhi zahir hai, magar inke darmiyan kuch mushtabah (shak wali) cheezein hain jinke baare mein aksar log nahi jaante. Jo shak wali cheezon se bach gaya, usne apna deen aur izzat bacha li. Aur jo shak wali cheezon mein pad gaya, woh us charwahe ki tarah hai jo kisi doosre ki hifazati chargaah ke qareeb apne janwar charata hai, kabhi bhi usme ghus sakta hai. Khabardar! Har badshah ki apni hifazati chargaah hoti hai, aur Allah ki hifazati chargaah zameen par uski haram ki hui cheezein hain. Khabardar! Jism mein ek gosht ka tukda hai, agar woh theek ho to poora jism theek rehta hai, aur agar woh bigad jaye to poora jism bigad jaata hai — woh dil hai."
