Hadith text
Narrated Ibn `Abbas:When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sent Mu`adh to Yemen, he said (to him), "YOU are going to people of a (Divine) Book. First of all invite them to worship Allah (alone) and when they come to know Allah, inform them that Allah has enjoined on them, five prayers in every day and night; and if they start offering these prayers, inform them that Allah has enjoined on them, the Zakat. And it is to be taken from the rich amongst them and given to the poor amongst them; and if they obey you in that, take Zakat from them and avoid (don't take) the best property of the people as Zakat
Ibn Abbas (رضی اللہ عنہما) bataate hain: Jab Allah ke Rasool ne Mu'adh ko Yemen bheja, unhone (unse) kaha: "Tum aisi qaum ke paas ja rahe ho jo Ahl-e-Kitaab (Aasmaani Kitaab wale) hain. Sabse pehle unhe Allah (akele) ki ibadat karne ki dawat do, aur jab woh Allah ko pehchaan jaayen, unhe bataao ke Allah ne unpar din-raat mein paanch namazein farz ki hain; aur agar woh yeh namazein padhna shuru kar dein, unhe bataao ke Allah ne unpar Zakat farz ki hai. Aur yeh unke maldaaron se li jaayegi aur unke gareebon ko di jaayegi; aur agar woh isme tumhari itaa'at karen, unse Zakat lo, magar logon ka sabse achha maal Zakat mein na lo (na leo)."
