Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was informed about my fasts, and he came to me and I spread for him a leather cushion stuffed with palm fibres, but he sat on the ground and the cushion remained between me and him, and then he said, "Isn't it sufficient for you to fast three days a month?" I replied, "O Allah's Apostle! (I can fast more)." He said, "Five?" I replied, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! (I can fast more)." He said, "Seven?" I replied, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! (I can fast more)." He said, "Nine (days per month)?" I replied, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! (I can fast more)" He said, "Eleven (days per month)?" And then the Prophet said, "There is no fast superior to that of the Prophet David (ﷺ) it was for half of the year. So, fast on alternate days
Abdullah bin Amr (رضی اللہ عنہما) bataate hain: Allah ke Rasool ko mere roze ke baare mein bataya gaya, aur woh mere paas aaye, maine unke liye khajoor ke resse se bhara chamde ka takiya bichhaya, magar woh zameen par baithe aur takiya mere aur unke darmiyan reh gaya, phir unhone kaha: "Kya tumhare liye mahine mein teen din roza rakhna kaafi nahi?" Maine kaha: "Ya Allah ke Rasool! (Main aur bhi rakh sakta hoon)." Unhone kaha: "Paanch?" Maine kaha: "Ya Allah ke Rasool! (Main aur bhi rakh sakta hoon)." Unhone kaha: "Saat?" Maine kaha: "Ya Allah ke Rasool! (Main aur bhi rakh sakta hoon)." Unhone kaha: "Nau (din mahine mein)?" Maine kaha: "Ya Allah ke Rasool! (Main aur bhi rakh sakta hoon)." Unhone kaha: "Gyarah (din mahine mein)?" Aur phir Nabi ne kaha: "Nabi Dawud ke roze se behtar koi roza nahi hai; woh aadhe saal ke barabar tha. Isliye alternate din roza rakho."
