Hadith text

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to practice I`tikaf (in the mosque) in the middle third of Ramadan and after passing the twenty nights he used to go back to his house on the 21st, and the people who were in I`tikaf with him also used to go back to their houses. Once in Ramadan, in which he practiced I`tikaf, he established the night prayers at the night in which he used to return home, and then he addressed the people and ordered them whatever Allah wished him to order and said, "I used to practice I`tikaf for these ten days (i.e. the middle third but now I intend to stay in I`tikaf for the last ten days (of the month); so whoever was in I`tikaf with me should stay at his place of seclusion. I have verily been shown (the date of) this Night (of Qadr) but I have forgotten it. So search for it in the odd nights of the last ten days (of this month). I also saw myself (in the dream) prostrating in mud and water." On the night of the 21st, the sky was covered with clouds and it rained, and the rainwater started leaking through the roof of the mosque at the praying place of the Prophet (ﷺ) . I saw with my own eyes the Prophet at the completion of the morning prayer leaving with his face covered with mud and water

Abu Saeed Al-Khudri (رضی اللہ عنہ) bataate hain: Allah ke Rasool Ramadan ke darmiyani das dinon mein I'tikaf karte the aur bees raaton ke baad, woh 21 taareekh ko apne ghar wapas jaane the, aur unke saath I'tikaf karne wale log bhi apne gharon wapas jate the. Ek baar Ramadan mein, jab woh I'tikaf kar rahe the, unhone raat ki namaz us raat mein padhi jab woh (ghar) wapas jane wale the, phir logon se khitaab kiya aur unhe hukum diya jo Allah ne chaha, aur kaha: "Main in das dinon (yaani darmiyani das dinon) mein I'tikaf karta tha magar ab mera iraada hai ke main (mahine ke) aakhri das dinon mein I'tikaf karun; isliye jo bhi mere saath I'tikaf kar raha tha, use apni jagah par rukna chahiye. Mujhe zaroor is Raat (Shab-e-Qadr ki taareekh) dikhaee gayi thi magar main use bhool gaya hoon. Isliye ise (Ramadan ke) aakhri das dinon ke taaq raaton mein dhoondo. Maine khud ko (khwab mein) kichad-paani mein sajda karte bhi dekha." 21 taareekh ki raat, aasman badalon se dhaka hua tha aur baarish hui, aur paani masjid ki chhat se, Nabi ki namaz padhne ki jagah par, tapakna shuru ho gaya. Maine apni aankhon se dekha Nabi Fajr ki namaz mukammal hone ke baad kichad-paani se dhake chehre ke saath nikale.
