Sahih al-Bukhari 2045

Hadith text

Narrated `Amra bint `Abdur-Rahman from `Aisha:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) mentioned that he would practice I`tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan. `Aisha asked his permission to perform I`tikaf and he permitted her. Hafsa asked `Aisha to take his permission for her, and she did so. When Zainab bint Jahsh saw that, she ordered a tent to be pitched for her and it was pitched for her. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to proceed to his tent after the prayer. So, he saw the tents and asked, "What is this?" He was told that those were the tents of Aisha, Hafsa, and Zainab. Allah's Apostle said, "Is it righteousness which they intended by doing so? I am not going to perform I`tikaf." So he returned home. When the fasting month was over, he performed I`tikaf for ten days in the month of Shawwal

Amra bint Abdur-Rahman, Ayesha ke hawale se: Allah ke Rasool ne zikar kiya ke woh Ramadan ke aakhri das dinon mein I'tikaf karenge. Ayesha ne unse I'tikaf ki ijazat maangi aur unhone ijazat di. Hafsa ne Ayesha se kaha ke woh unke liye bhi ijazat maangen, aur unhone aisa kiya. Jab Zainab bint Jahsh ne yeh dekha, unhone bhi apna khaimah lagane ka hukum diya aur unke liye lagaya gaya. Allah ke Rasool namaz ke baad apne khaimay ki taraf jate the. Isliye unhone khaime dekhe aur pucha: "Yeh kya hai?" Unhe bataya gaya ke yeh Ayesha, Hafsa aur Zainab ke khaime hain. Allah ke Rasool ne kaha: "Kya isse woh neki (kamana) chahti hain? Main I'tikaf nahi karunga." Isliye Aap wapas ghar chale gaye. Jab roze ka mahina khatam hua, unhone Shawwal ke mahine mein das din I'tikaf kiya.
