Hadith text

Narrated Hudhaifa:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Before your time the angels received the soul of a man and asked him, 'Did you do any good deeds (in your life)?' He replied, 'I used to order my employees to grant time to the rich person to pay his debts at his convenience.' So Allah said to the angels; "Excuse him." Rabi said that (the dead man said), 'I used to be easy to the rich and grant time to the poor.' Or, in another narration, 'grant time to the well-off and forgive the needy,' or, 'accept from the well-off and forgive the needy

Hudhaifa (رضی اللہ عنہ) bataate hain: Nabi ne farmaya: "Tumse pehle, farishton ne ek shaks ki jaan li aur usse pucha: 'Kya tumne koi neik amal kiya (apni zindagi mein)?' Usne jawab diya: 'Main apne mulaazimon ko maldaar shaks ko apna qarz aasani se wapas karne ka mauka dene ka hukum deta tha.' To Allah ne farishton se kaha: 'Ise maaf kar do.'" Rabi ne kaha ke (marne wale shaks ne kaha): "Main maldaar logon ke saath narmi baratata tha aur gareebon ko waqt deta tha," ya ek doosri riwayat mein, "khushhaal logon ko waqt deta aur zaroorat-mand ko maaf kar deta," ya, "khushhaal se leta aur zaroorat-mand ko maaf kar deta."
