Hadith text

Narrated Ibn Shihab:that Malik bin Aus said, "I was in need of change for one-hundred Dinars. Talha bin 'Ubaidullah called me and we discussed the matter, and he agreed to change (my Dinars). He took the gold pieces in his hands and fidgeted with them, and then said, "Wait till my storekeeper comes from the forest." `Umar was listening to that and said, "By Allah! You should not separate from Talha till you get the money from him, for Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, 'The selling of gold for gold is Riba (usury) except if the exchange is from hand to hand and equal in amount, and similarly, the selling of wheat for wheat is Riba (usury) unless it is from hand to hand and equal in amount, and the selling of barley for barley is usury unless it is from hand to hand and equal in amount, and dates for dates, is usury unless it is from hand to hand and equal in amount

Ibn Shihab bataate hain: Malik bin Aus ne kaha: "Mujhe sau Dinar ke liye chhutte (chhote sikke) chahiye the. Talha bin Ubaidullah ne mujhe bulaya aur humne iss baare mein baat ki, aur woh (mere Dinar) badalne ke liye raazi hue. Unhone sone ke tukde apne haathon mein liye aur unse khelte rahe, phir kaha: 'Intezar karo jab tak mera khazanchi jungle se aaye.' Umar yeh sun rahe the aur unhone kaha: 'Allah ki qasam! Tum Talha se tab tak alag mat ho jab tak tumhe paisa na mile, kyunke Allah ke Rasool ne farmaya: Sone ka sone se badal karna Riba hai siwaye jab yeh badla haath se haath ho aur maqdaar barabar ho, aur isi tarah gehun ka gehun se badal karna Riba hai jab tak yeh haath se haath ho aur maqdaar barabar ho, aur jau ka jau se badal karna Riba hai jab tak yeh haath se haath ho aur maqdaar barabar ho, aur khajoor ka khajoor se badal karna Riba hai jab tak yeh haath se haath ho aur maqdaar barabar ho.'"
