Hadith text
Narrated Muhammad bin Al-Mujalid:`Abdullah bin Shaddad and Abu Burda sent me to `Abdullah bin Abi `Aufa and told me to ask `Abdullah whether the people in the lifetime of the Prophet (ﷺ) used to pay in advance for wheat (to be delivered later). `Abdullah replied, "We used to pay in advance to the peasants of Sham for wheat, barley and olive oil of a known specified measure to be delivered in a specified period." I asked (him), "Was the price paid (in advance) to those who had the things to be delivered later?" `Abdullah bin `Aufa replied, "We did not use to ask them about that." Then they sent me to `Abdur Rahman bin Abza and I asked him. He replied, "The companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) used to practice Salam in the lifetime of the Prophet; and we did not use to ask them whether they had standing crops or not
Muhammad bin Al-Mujalid bataate hain: Abdullah bin Shaddad aur Abu Burda ne mujhe Abdullah bin Abi Aufa ke paas bheja aur mujhse kaha Abdullah se pucchun kya Nabi ke zamane mein log gehun ki qeemat pehle dete the (baad mein delivery ke liye). Abdullah ne jawab diya: "Hum Sham ke kisaanon ko jau, gehun, aur zaitoon ke tel ki qeemat pehle dete the, jaani-pehchaani muqarrar naap ke liye, muqarrar muddat mein delivery ke liye." Maine (unse) pucha: "Kya paisa un logon ko diya jaata jinke paas woh cheezein (delivery ke liye) hoti thi?" Abdullah bin Aufa ne jawab diya: "Hum unse yeh sawaal nahi karte the." Phir unhone mujhe Abdur-Rahman bin Abza ke paas bheja aur maine unse pucha. Unhone jawab diya: "Nabi ke sahaba Nabi ke zamane mein Salam ka amal karte the; aur hum unse yeh nahi puchte the ke unke paas khadi fasal hai ya nahi."
