Hadith text

Narrated Rafi` bin Khadij:We worked on farms more than anybody else in Medina. We used to rent the land at the yield of specific delimited portion of it to be given to the landlord. Sometimes the vegetation of that portion was affected by blights etc., while the rest remained safe and vice versa, so the Prophet (ﷺ) forbade this practice. At that time gold or silver were not used (for renting the land). If they provided the seeds, they would get so-and-so much

Rafi bin Khadij (رضی اللہ عنہ) bataate hain: Hum Madina mein sabse zyada kheti karte the. Hum zameen ko iss shart par kiraye par lete the ke uske ek khaas hisse ki paidawaar zameendaar ko dee jaayegi. Kabhi-kabhi us hisse ki paidawaar bimari waghera se kharaab ho jaati, jabke baaki zameen theek rehti, aur kabhi iske ulta hota, isliye Nabi ne is riwaj se mana kiya. Us waqt zameen kiraye par sona-chandi (paison) se nahi li jaati thi. Agar woh (kisaan) beej dete, unhe kuch (nishchit) maqdaar milti.
