Book 45: Lost Things Picked up by Someone (Luqatah) · Hadith 4
Hadith text
Narrated Zaid bin Khalid:A man came and asked Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about picking a lost thing. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Remember the description of its container and the string it is tied with, and make public announcement about it for one year. If the owner shows up, give it to him; otherwise, do whatever you like with it." He then asked, "What about a lost sheep?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "It is for you, for your brother (i.e. its owner), or for the wolf." He further asked, "What about a lost camel?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "It is none of your concern. It has its water-container (reservoir) and its feet, and it will reach water and drink it and eat the trees till its owner finds it
Zaid bin Khalid (رضی اللہ عنہ) bataate hain: Ek shaks aaya aur Allah ke Rasool se giri hui cheez uthane ke baare mein pucha. Nabi ne kaha: "Uske bartan aur uski baandhne wali dhage ka bayaan yaad rakho, aur ek saal tak iskaa public elaan karo. Agar maalik zaahir ho jaaye, use de do; warna apni marzi se jo chaho karo." Phir usne pucha: "Ek gum-shuda bhed ke baare mein kya?" Nabi ne kaha: "Woh tumhare liye hai, tumhare bhai (uske maalik) ke liye, ya bhediye ke liye." Usne aage pucha: "Ek gum-shuda unt ke baare mein kya?" Nabi ne kaha: "Yeh tumhare liye chinta ki baat nahi. Uske paas apna paani ka bharosa (reservoir) aur apne paon hain, aur woh paani tak pahunch kar pi lega aur darakht kha lega jab tak uska maalik use na paa le."
