Book 49: Manumission of Slaves · Hadith 28
Hadith text
Narrated Al-Ma'rur bin Suwaid:I saw Abu Dhar Al-Ghifari wearing a cloak, and his slave, too, was wearing a cloak. We asked him about that (i.e. how both were wearing similar cloaks). He replied, "Once I abused a man and he complained of me to the Prophet (ﷺ) . The Prophet (ﷺ) asked me, 'Did you abuse him by slighting his mother?' He added, 'Your slaves are your brethren upon whom Allah has given you authority. So, if one has one's brethren under one's control, one should feed them with the like of what one eats and clothe them with the like of what one wears. You should not overburden them with what they cannot bear, and if you do so, help them (in their hard job)
Al-Ma'rur bin Suwaid bataate hain: Maine Abu Dharr Al-Ghifari ko ek chogha pehne dekha, aur unka gulaam bhi ek chogha pehne hue tha. Humne unse iske baare mein pucha (yaani dono ek jaise chogha kyun pehne hue the). Unhone jawab diya: "Ek baar maine ek shaks ko gaali di aur usne meri shikayat Nabi se ki. Nabi ne mujhse pucha: 'Kya tumne uski maa ko lekar usse be-adabi ki?'" Unhone joda: "Tumhare gulaam tumhare bhai hain jinpar Allah ne tumhe ikhtiyaar diya hai. Isliye agar kisi ke apne bhai apne ikhtiyaar mein hon, use unhe wahi khilana chahiye jo woh khud khaata hai, aur wahi pehnana chahiye jo woh khud pehanta hai. Unpar aisa bojh na daalo jo woh na sehen kar saken, aur agar aisa karo, unki madad karo (unke mushkil kaam mein)."
