Hadith text

Narrated `Aisha:I intended to buy Barirah but her masters stipulated that her Wala should be for them. When the Prophet was told about it, he said to me, "Buy and manumit her, as the Wala' is for the liberator." Once Barirah was given some meat, and the Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "What is this?" I said, "It has been given to Barirah in charity." He said, "It is sadaqa for her but a gift for us." Barirah was given the option (to stay with her husband or to part with him). `Abdur-Rahman (a sub-narrator) wondered, "Was her husband a slave or a free man?" Shu`ba (another sub-narrator) said, "I asked `Abdur-Rahman whether her husband was a slave or a free man. He replied that he did not know whether he was a slave or a free man

Ayesha (رضی اللہ عنہا) bataati hain: Maine Barira ko khareedna chaha magar uske maalikon ne shart rakhi ke uska Wala unke paas rahega. Jab Nabi ko iske baare mein bataya gaya, unhone mujhse kaha: "Ise khareedo aur azaad karo, kyunke Wala azaad karne wale ka hota hai." Ek baar Barira ko kuch gosht diya gaya, aur Nabi ne pucha: "Yeh kya hai?" Maine kaha: "Yeh Barira ko sadqe mein diya gaya hai." Unhone kaha: "Yeh uske liye Sadaqa hai magar humare liye tohfa." Barira ko ikhtiyaar diya gaya (apne shohar ke saath rahne ya alag hone ka). Abdur-Rahman (doosre raawi) ne hairat se pucha: "Kya uska shohar gulaam tha ya azaad?" Shu'ba (ek aur raawi) ne kaha: "Maine Abdur-Rahman se pucha kya uska shohar gulaam tha ya azaad. Unhone jawab diya ke unhe nahi pata woh gulaam tha ya azaad."
