Sahih al-Bukhari 2664

Hadith text

Narrated Ibn `Umar:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) called me to present myself in front of him on the eve of the battle of Uhud, while I was fourteen years of age at that time, and he did not allow me to take part in that battle, but he called me in front of him on the eve of the battle of the Trench when I was fifteen years old, and he allowed me (to join the battle)." Nafi` said, "I went to `Umar bin `Abdul `Aziz who was Caliph at that time and related the above narration to him, He said, "This age (fifteen) is the limit between childhood and manhood," and wrote to his governors to give salaries to those who reached the age of fifteen

Ibn Umar (رضی اللہ عنہما) bataate hain: Allah ke Rasool ne mujhe Uhud ki jung se ek raat pehle apne saamne pesh hone ko bulaya, jabke main us waqt chaudah saal ka tha, aur unhone mujhe us jung mein shaamil hone ki ijazat nahi di, magar unhone mujhe Khandaq ki jung se ek raat pehle bulaya jab main pandrah saal ka tha, aur unhone mujhe (shaamil hone ki) ijazat di. Nafi ne kaha: "Main Umar bin Abdul Aziz ke paas gaya, jo us waqt khalifa the, aur unhe yeh riwaayat sunai. Unhone kaha: 'Yeh umar (pandrah) baalig hone aur bachpan ke darmiyan seema hai,' aur apne gawarnaron ko likha ke pandrah saal ki umr tak pahunch chuke logon ko tankhwah dein."
