Book 52: Witnesses · Hadith 41

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ إِنَّكُمْ تَخْتَصِمُونَ إِلَىَّ، وَلَعَلَّ بَعْضَكُمْ أَلْحَنُ بِحُجَّتِهِ مِنْ بَعْضٍ، فَمَنْ قَضَيْتُ لَهُ بِحَقِّ أَخِيهِ شَيْئًا بِقَوْلِهِ، فَإِنَّمَا أَقْطَعُ لَهُ قِطْعَةً مِنَ النَّارِ فَلاَ يَأْخُذْهَا ‏"‏‏.‏

Narrated Um Salama:Once Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "You people present your cases to me and some of you may be more eloquent and persuasive in presenting their argument. So, if I give some one's right to another (wrongly) because of the latter's (tricky) presentation of the case, I am really giving him a piece of fire; so he should not take it

Um Salama bataati hain: Ek baar Allah ke Rasool ne kaha: "Tum log apne maamle mere saamne rakhte ho aur tum mein se kuch apna daava doosron se zyada khoobsurati aur asar se pesh kar sakte hain. Isliye agar main galti se kisi ka haqq doosre ko de dun (uske achhe daave ki wajah se), to main asal mein use aag ka ek tukda de raha hoon; isliye use woh nahi lena chahiye."
