Hadith text
Narrated Ubaidullah bin `Abdullah bin `Utba:Ibn `Abbas said, "O Muslims? How do you ask the people of the Scriptures, though your Book (i.e. the Qur'an) which was revealed to His Prophet is the most recent information from Allah and you recite it, the Book that has not been distorted? Allah has revealed to you that the people of the scriptures have changed with their own hands what was revealed to them and they have said (as regards their changed Scriptures): This is from Allah, in order to get some worldly benefit thereby." Ibn `Abbas added: "Isn't the knowledge revealed to you sufficient to prevent you from asking them? By Allah I have never seen any one of them asking (Muslims) about what has been revealed to you
Ubaidullah bin Abdullah bin Utba bataate hain: Ibn Abbas ne kaha: "Aye Musalmano! Tum Kitaab-e-Ahle-Kitaab walon se kaise (deeni maamlon mein) puchte ho, jabke tumhari apni Kitaab (yaani Quran), jo unke Nabi par nazil hui, Allah ki taraf se sabse naee khabar hai aur tum ise tilawat karte ho, aisi Kitaab jise badla nahi gaya? Allah ne tumpar zaahir kiya hai ke Ahle-Kitaab ne apne haathon se apni Kitaabon mein jo nazil hua use badal diya, aur kaha (apni badali hui Kitaabon ke baare mein): Yeh Allah ki taraf se hai, taake usse kuch duniyawi faayda mil sake." Ibn Abbas ne joda: "Kya tumhe di gayi ilm kaafi nahi ke tum unse na pucho? Allah ki qasam, maine kabhi unme se kisi ko tumse yeh poochte nahi dekha jo tumpar nazil hua hai."
