Hadith text
Narrated Ibn `Umar:When `Umar got a piece of land in Khaibar, he came to the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, "I have got a piece of land, better than which I have never got. So what do you advise me regarding it?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If you wish you can keep it as an endowment to be used for charitable purposes." So, `Umar gave the land in charity (i.e. as an endowment) on the condition that the land would neither be sold nor given as a present, nor bequeathed, (and its yield) would be used for the poor, the kinsmen, the emancipation of slaves, Jihad, and for guests and travelers; and its administrator could eat in a reasonable just manner, and he also could feed his friends without intending to be wealthy by its means
Ibn Umar bataate hain: Jab Umar ko Khaibar mein ek zameen ka tukda mila, woh Nabi ke paas gaye aur kaha: "Mujhe ek zameen ka tukda mila hai, jaisi mujhe kabhi nahi mila. Iske baare mein aapki kya salaah hai?" Nabi ne kaha: "Agar tum chaho, ise sadqe (waqf) ke tor par rakh sakte ho jiski paidawaar charity mein istemal ho." Isliye Umar ne zameen sadqa mein di is shart par ke woh na bechi jaayegi, na tohfe mein di jaayegi, na waraasat mein di jaayegi, (aur iski paidawaar) gareebon, rishtedaron, gulaamon ko azaad karne, Jihad, mehmaanon aur musafiron ke liye istemal hogi; aur iska prabandhak munasib tareeke se isme se kha sakta hai, aur apne doston ko bhi khila sakta hai bina isse maldaar banne ka iraada rakhe.
