Hadith text

Narrated `Abdullah bin Abi Qatada:(from his father) Abu Qatada went out (on a journey) with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) but he was left behind with some of his companions who were in the state of Ihram. He himself was not in the state of Ihram. They saw an onager before he could see it. When they saw the onager, they did not speak anything till Abu Qatada saw it. So, he rode over his horse called Al-Jarada and requested them to give him his lash, but they refused. So, he himself took it and then attacked the onager and slaughtered it. He ate of its meat and his companions ate, too, but they regretted their eating. When they met the Prophet (they asked him about it) and he asked, "Have you some of its meat (left) with you?" Abu Qatada replied, "Yes, we have its leg with us." So, the Prophet (ﷺ) took and ate it

Abdullah bin Abu Qatada bataate hain (apne waalid ke hawale se): Abu Qatada Allah ke Rasool ke saath (safar par) nikle magar unhe kuch saathiyon ke saath peeche chhod diya gaya jo Ihram mein the. Woh khud Ihram mein nahi the. Unhone (saathiyon ne) ek jangli gadha dekha isse pehle ke Abu Qatada dekhte, aur jab unhone use dekha, unhone (Abu Qatada ko) kuch nahi kaha jab tak Abu Qatada khud usse dekh na liya. Isliye woh apne ghode par sawar hue jise Al-Jarada kaha jata tha aur unhe apna chaabuk dene ki guzarish ki, magar unhone inkaar kiya. Isliye unhone khud use liya aur gadhe par hamla karke use zabah kiya. Unhone uska gosht khaya aur unke saathiyon ne bhi khaya, magar baad mein unhe apne khaane par afsos hua. Jab woh Nabi se mile (aur unse iske baare mein pucha), Aap ne pucha: "Kya tumhare paas uska kuch gosht bacha hai?" Abu Qatada ne jawab diya: "Haan, humare paas uski taang hai." Isliye Nabi ne use liya aur khaya.
