Hadith text
Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d As-Sa`idi:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and the pagans faced each other and started fighting. When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) returned to his camp and when the pagans returned to their camp, somebody talked about a man amongst the companions of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) who would follow and kill with his sword any pagan going alone. He said, "Nobody did his job (i.e. fighting) so properly today as that man." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Indeed, he is amongst the people of the (Hell) Fire." A man amongst the people said, "I shall accompany him (to watch what he does)" Thus he accompanied him, and wherever he stood, he would stand with him, and wherever he ran, he would run with him. Then the (brave) man got wounded seriously and he decided to bring about his death quickly. He planted the blade of the sword in the ground directing its sharp end towards his chest between his two breasts. Then he leaned on the sword and killed himself. The other man came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said, "I testify that you are Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)." The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "What has happened?" He replied, "(It is about) the man whom you had described as one of the people of the (Hell) Fire. The people were greatly surprised at what you said, and I said, 'I will find out his reality for you.' So, I came out seeking him. He got severely wounded, and hastened to die by slanting the blade of his sword in the ground directing its sharp end towards his chest between his two breasts. Then he eased on his sword and killed himself." Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "A man may seem to the people as if he were practising the deeds of the people of Paradise while in fact he is from the people of the Hell) Fire, another may seem to the people as if he were practicing the deeds of the people of Hell (Fire), while in fact he is from the people of Paradise
Sahl bin Sa'd As-Sa'idi bataate hain: Allah ke Rasool aur mushrik ek-doosre ke saamne aaye aur jung shuru ki. Jab Allah ke Rasool apne khaime ki taraf wapas gaye aur mushrik apne khaime ki taraf wapas gaye, kisi ne Allah ke Rasool ke sahaba mein se ek shaks ke baare mein baat ki jo akele jate hue kisi bhi mushrik ka picha karke apni talwar se qatl kar deta. Usne kaha, "Aaj kisi ne apna kaam (yaani jung) itna acchhi tarah nahi kiya jitna us shaks ne." Allah ke Rasool ne kaha, "Beshak, woh Dozakh walon mein se hai." Logon mein se ek shaks ne kaha, "Main uske saath jaunga (dekhne ke liye woh kya karta hai)." Isliye woh uske saath gaya, aur jahan bhi woh khada hota, woh bhi khade hote, aur jahan bhi woh daudta, woh bhi daudte. Phir woh (bahadur) shaks sakht zakhmi ho gaya aur usne jaldi apni maut laane ka faisla kiya. Usne talwar ki blade zameen mein gadi, uski tez dhaar apne seene ki taraf, apni donon chhatiyon ke beech. Phir woh talwar par jhuka aur khud ko qatl kar liya. Doosra shaks Allah ke Rasool ke paas aaya aur kaha, "Main gawahi deta hoon ke aap Allah ke Rasool hain." Nabi ne pucha, "Kya hua hai?" Usne jawab diya, "(Yeh) us shaks ke baare mein hai jise aapne Dozakh walon mein se ek bataya tha. Log aapki baat se bahut hairaan hue, aur maine kaha, 'Main tumhare liye uski asaliyat pata karunga.' Isliye main use dhoondne nikla. Woh sakht zakhmi hua, aur apni maut ki jaldi ki apni talwar ki blade zameen mein trichhi gadkar, uski tez dhaar apne seene ki taraf, apni donon chhatiyon ke beech. Phir woh apni talwar par jhuka aur khud ko qatl kar liya." Phir Allah ke Rasool ne kaha, "Ek shaks logon ko aisa lag sakta hai jaise woh Jannat walon jaise amal kar raha ho, jabke asal mein woh Dozakh walon mein se hai, aur doosra logon ko Dozakh walon jaise amal karte hue lag sakta hai, jabke woh asal mein Jannat walon mein se hai."
