Hadith text

Narrated 'Ubaidullah bin Abi Rafi`:I heard `Ali saying, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sent me, Az-Zubair and Al-Miqdad somewhere saying, 'Proceed till you reach Rawdat Khakh. There you will find a lady with a letter. Take the letter from her.' " So, we set out and our horses ran at full pace till we got at Ar-Rawda where we found the lady and said (to her). "Take out the letter." She replied, "I have no letter with me." We said, "Either you take out the letter or else we will take off your clothes." So, she took it out of her braid. We brought the letter to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and it contained a statement from Hatib bin Abi Balta'a to some of the Meccan pagans informing them of some of the intentions of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "O Hatib! What is this?" Hatib replied, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Don't hasten to give your judgment about me. I was a man closely connected with the Quraish, but I did not belong to this tribe, while the other emigrants with you, had their relatives in Mecca who would protect their dependents and property . So, I wanted to recompense for my lacking blood relation to them by doing them a favor so that they might protect my dependents. I did this neither because of disbelief nor apostasy nor out of preferring Kufr (disbelief) to Islam." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), said, "Hatib has told you the truth." `Umar said, O Allah's Apostle! Allow me to chop off the head of this hypocrite." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Hatib participated in the battle of Badr, and who knows, perhaps Allah has already looked at the Badr warriors and said, 'Do whatever you like, for I have forgiven you

Ubaidullah bin Abi Rafi bataate hain: Maine Ali ko kehte suna, "Allah ke Rasool ne mujhe, Az-Zubair aur Al-Miqdad ko kahin bheja aur kaha, 'Chalte raho jab tak Rawdat Khakh na pahunch jaao. Wahan tumhe ek aurat khat lekar milegi. Usse khat le lena.' Isliye hum nikle aur humare ghode poori raftaar se daude jab tak hum Ar-Rawda pahunche, jahan humne us aurat ko paaya aur (usse) kaha, 'Khat nikaalo.' Usne jawab diya, 'Mere paas koi khat nahi hai.' Humne kaha, 'Ya to tum khat nikaalo ya hum tumhare kapde utaar denge.' Isliye usne use apni choti mein se nikala. Hum khat Allah ke Rasool ke paas laaye aur usme Hatib bin Abi Balta'a ka Mecca ke kuch mushrikon ko likha hua ek bayaan tha jismein woh unhe Allah ke Rasool ke kuch iraadon ki khabar de rahe the. Isspar Allah ke Rasool ne kaha, 'Aye Hatib! Yeh kya hai?' Hatib ne jawab diya, 'Ya Allah ke Rasool! Mere baare mein foran apna faisla mat dijiye. Main Quraish se qareebi taur par juda hua tha, magar main is qabile se ta'alluq nahi rakhta tha, jabke aapke saath doosre Muhajireen ke Mecca mein rishtedaar the jo unke aashriton aur jaidad ki hifaazat karte. Isliye mujhe unse khoon ka rishta na hone ki kami poori karne ke liye maine unpar ek ehsaan karna chaha taake woh mere aashriton ki hifaazat karen. Maine yeh na kufr ki wajah se kiya na deen se firne ki wajah se, na Islam se zyada Kufr ko tarjih dekar.' Allah ke Rasool ne kaha, 'Hatib ne tumse sach kaha hai.' Umar ne kaha, 'Ya Allah ke Rasool! Mujhe ijazat dijiye ke main is munafik ka sar kaat dun.' Allah ke Rasool ne kaha, 'Hatib Badr ki jung mein shaamil the, aur kise pata, shaayad Allah ne Badr ke jungjuon ki taraf dekhkar kaha ho, \"Jo chaho karo, kyunke maine tumhe maaf kar diya hai.\"'"
