Hadith text
Narrated Al-Bara bin Azib:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sent a group of Ansari men to kill Abu-Rafi`. One of them set out and entered their (i.e. the enemies) fort. That man said, "I hid myself in a stable for their animals. They closed the fort gate. Later they lost a donkey of theirs, so they went out in its search. I, too, went out along with them, pretending to look for it. They found the donkey and entered their fort. And I, too, entered along with them. They closed the gate of the fort at night, and kept its keys in a small window where I could see them. When those people slept, I took the keys and opened the gate of the fort and came upon Abu Rafi` and said, 'O Abu Rafi`. When he to replied me, I proceeded towards the voice and hit him. He shouted and I came out to come back, pretending to be a helper. I said, 'O Abu Rafi`,' changing the tone of my voice. He asked me, 'What do you want; woe to your mother?' I asked him, 'What has happened to you?' He said, 'I don't know who came to me and hit me.' Then I drove my sword into his belly and pushed it forcibly till it touched the bone. Then I came out, filled with puzzlement and went towards a ladder of theirs in order to get down but I fell down and sprained my foot. I came to my companions and said, 'I will not leave till I hear the wailing of the women.' So, I did not leave till I heard the women bewailing Abu Rafi`, the merchant of Hijaz. Then I got up, feeling no ailment, (and we proceeded) till we came upon the Prophet (ﷺ) and informed him
Al-Bara bin Azib bataate hain: Allah ke Rasool ne Ansaar ke kuch logon ko Abu Rafi ko qatl karne ke liye bheja. Unme se ek nikla aur unke (yaani dushmanon ke) qile mein daakhil hua. Us shaks ne kaha, "Maine khud ko unke janwaron ke tabele mein chhupaya. Unhone qile ka darwaza band kar diya. Baad mein unka ek gadha kho gaya, isliye woh use dhoondne nikle. Main bhi unke saath nikla, yeh dikhaane ke maine bhi use dhoondne nikla hoon. Unhe gadha mil gaya aur woh apne qile mein daakhil hue, aur main bhi unke saath daakhil hua. Unhone raat ko qile ka darwaza band kar diya aur uski chaabiyaan ek chhoti khidki mein rakhi jahaan se main unhe dekh sakta tha. Jab woh log so gaye, maine chaabiyaan lekar qile ka darwaza khola aur Abu Rafi ke paas pahuncha aur kaha, 'Aye Abu Rafi.' Jab unhone mujhe jawab diya, main aawaaz ki taraf gaya aur unhe maara. Woh chillae aur main bahar nikla, phir madad karne wale ka natak karte huye wapas aaya. Maine kaha, 'Aye Abu Rafi,' apni aawaaz badalte huye. Unhone mujhse pucha, 'Kya chahiye tujhe; tere maa ko afsos ho?' Maine unse pucha, 'Kya hua hai aapko?' Unhone kaha, 'Mujhe nahi pata kaun mere paas aaya aur mujhe maara.' Phir maine apni talwar unke pet mein ghusaee aur usse jor se dhakela jab tak woh haddi tak pahunch gaee. Phir main bahar nikla, hairaan hote huye, aur unke ek seedhi ki taraf gaya taake main neeche jaoon, magar main gir gaya aur mera paon mochki gaya. Main apne sathiyon ke paas gaya aur kaha, 'Main tab tak nahi chhodunga jab tak main auraton ka rona na suno.' Isliye maine tab tak jagah nahi chhodi jab tak maine auraton ko Abu Rafi, Hijaz ke vyapaari, ka maatam karte suna. Phir main utha, koi taklif mahsoos na karte huye, (aur hum aage badhe) jab tak hum Nabi ke paas pahunche aur unhe bataya."
