Hadith text

Narrated Abu Huraira:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "When the call for the prayer is pronounced, Satan takes to his heels, passing wind with noise, When the call for the prayer is finished, he comes back. And when the Iqama is pronounced, he again takes to his heels, and after its completion, he returns again to interfere between the (praying) person and his heart, saying to him. 'Remember this or that thing.' till the person forgets whether he has offered three or four rak`at: so if one forgets whether he has prayed three or four rak`at, he should perform two prostrations of Sahu (i.e. forgetfulness)

Abu Huraira bataate hain: Nabi ne kaha, "Jab Adhan (namaz ki azaan) ki jaati hai, Shaitan gaas nikalte huye bhaag jata hai. Jab Adhan khatam hoti hai, woh wapas aata hai. Aur jab Iqamat kahi jaati hai, woh phir bhaag jata hai, aur uske khatam hone ke baad, woh phir namaz padhne wale aur uske dil ke beech dakhal dene wapas aata hai, usse kehta hai, 'Yeh ya woh baat yaad karo,' jab tak woh (namaz padhne wala) bhool jata hai kya usne teen ya chaar rakat padhi hai; isliye agar koi bhool jata hai kya usne teen ya chaar rakat padhi hai, use Sahu ke do sajde karne chahiye (yaani bhool ki bharpaee ke sajde)."
