Book 59: Beginning of Creation · Hadith 122

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ ‏ "‏ خَمِّرُوا الآنِيَةَ، وَأَوْكُوا الأَسْقِيَةَ، وَأَجِيفُوا الأَبْوَابَ، وَاكْفِتُوا صِبْيَانَكُمْ عِنْدَ الْعِشَاءِ، فَإِنَّ لِلْجِنِّ انْتِشَارًا وَخَطْفَةً، وَأَطْفِئُوا الْمَصَابِيحَ عِنْدَ الرُّقَادِ، فَإِنَّ الْفُوَيْسِقَةَ رُبَّمَا اجْتَرَّتِ الْفَتِيلَةَ فَأَحْرَقَتْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ ‏"‏‏.‏ قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ وَحَبِيبٌ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ فَإِنَّ لِلشَّيَاطِينِ‏.‏

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Cover your utensils and tie your water skins, and close your doors and keep your children close to you at night, as the Jinns spread out at such time and snatch things away. When you go to bed, put out your lights, for the mischief-doer (i.e. the rat) may drag away the wick of the candle and burn the dwellers of the house." Ata said, "The devils." (instead of the Jinns)

Jabir bin Abdullah bataate hain: Nabi ne kaha, "Apne bartan dhaako aur apni mashken baandho, aur apne darwaaze band karo aur raat ko apne bachchon ko apne paas rakho, kyunke jin us waqt phailte hain aur cheezein churaa lete hain. Jab tum sote ho, apni roshni bujha do, kyunke fasaad phaila hone wala (yaani chuha) mombatti ki baati khinch sakta hai aur ghar walon ko jala sakta hai." Ata ne kaha, "(Jin ke bajaye) Shaitan."
