Sahih al-Bukhari 3353

Hadith text

Narrated Abu Huraira:The people said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Who is the most honorable amongst the people (in Allah's Sight)?" He said, "The most righteous amongst them." They said, "We do not ask you, about this. " He said, "Then Joseph, Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Prophet, The son of Allah's Prophet the son of Allah's Khalil (i.e. Abraham)." They said, "We do not want to ask about this," He said' "Then you want to ask about the descent of the Arabs. Those who were the best in the pre-Islamic period of ignorance will be the best in Islam provided they comprehend the religious knowledge

Abu Huraira bataate hain: Logon ne pucha, "Ya Allah ke Rasool! Sab logon mein sabse izzatdaar kaun hai (Allah ki nazar mein)?" Unhone kaha, "Unme sabse pakbaz." Unhone kaha, "Hum aapse yeh nahi puchna chahte." Unhone kaha, "Phir Yusuf, Allah ke Nabi, Allah ke Nabi ke bete, jo khud Allah ke Nabi ke bete the, jo khud Allah ke dost (Ibrahim) ke bete the." Unhone kaha, "Hum aapse yeh bhi nahi puchna chahte." Unhone kaha, "Phir tum Arbon ke vansh ke baare mein puchna chahte ho. Jo log Jahiliyat ke daur mein sabse behtar the, woh Islam mein bhi sabse behtar honge, bashart ke unhe deen ka gyaan ho jaaye."
