Sahih al-Bukhari 3374

Hadith text

Narrated Abu Huraira:Some people asked the Prophet: "Who is the most honorable amongst the people?" He replied, "The most honorable among them is the one who is the most Allah-fearing." They said, "O Allah's Prophet! We do not ask about this." He said, "Then the most honorable person is Joseph, Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Khalil." They said, "We do not ask about this." He said, "Then you want to ask me about the Arabs' descent?" They said, "Yes." He said, "Those who were best in the pre-Islamic period, are the best in Islam, if they comprehend (the religious knowledge)

Abu Huraira bataate hain: Kuch logon ne Nabi se pucha: "Sab logon mein sabse izzatdaar kaun hai?" Unhone jawab diya, "Unme sabse pakbaz." Unhone kaha, "Ya Allah ke Nabi! Hum yeh nahi puchna chahte." Unhone kaha, "Phir sabse izzatdaar shaks Yusuf hain, Allah ke Nabi, Allah ke Nabi ke bete, jo khud Allah ke Nabi ke bete the, jo khud Allah ke dost (Ibrahim) ke bete the." Unhone kaha, "Hum yeh bhi nahi puchna chahte." Unhone kaha, "Phir tum Arbon ke vansh ke baare mein puchna chahte ho?" Unhone kaha, "Haan." Unhone kaha, "Jo log Jahiliyat ke daur mein sabse behtar the, woh Islam mein bhi sabse behtar honge, bashart ke unhe (deen ka) gyaan ho jaaye."
