Hadith text

Narrated `Aisha:The people of Quraish worried about the lady from Bani Makhzum who had committed theft. They asked, "Who will intercede for her with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)?" Some said, "No one dare to do so except Usama bin Zaid the beloved one to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ." When Usama spoke about that to Allah's Apostle Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, (to him), "Do you try to intercede for somebody in a case connected with Allah's Prescribed Punishments?" Then he got up and delivered a sermon saying, "What destroyed the nations preceding you, was that if a noble amongst them stole, they would forgive him, and if a poor person amongst them stole, they would inflict Allah's Legal punishment on him. By Allah, if Fatima, the daughter of Muhammad stole, I would cut off her hand

Ayesha bataati hain: Quraish qabile ke log Bani Makhzum ki us aurat ko lekar pareshaan the jisne chori ki thi. Unhone pucha, "Allah ke Rasool ke saamne uske liye kaun sifarish karega?" Kuchon ne kaha, "Iski himmat koi nahi karega siwaye Usama bin Zaid ke, jo Allah ke Rasool ke sabse pyare hain." Jab Usama ne Allah ke Rasool se is baare mein baat ki, Allah ke Rasool ne (unse) kaha, "Kya tum Allah ke muqarrar kiye hue dandon mein se ek ke maamle mein sifarish karte ho?" Phir woh khade hue aur khutba diya, kehte huye, "Jinhone tumse pahle ki ummaton ko barbaad kiya, woh yeh tha ke agar unme se koi izzatdaar shaks chori karta, woh use maaf kar dete, magar agar koi gareeb shaks chori karta, woh uspar Allah ka qanooni dand lagate. Allah ki qasam, agar Muhammad ki beti Fatima bhi chori karti, main uska haath kaat deta."
