Sahih al-Bukhari 3496

Hadith text

Narrated Abu Huraira:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The tribe of Quraish has precedence over the people in this connection (i.e the right of ruling). The Muslims follow the Muslims amongst them, and the infidels follow the infidels amongst them. People are of different natures: The best amongst them in the pre-Islamic period are the best in Islam provided they comprehend the religious knowledge. You will find that the best amongst the people in this respect (i.e. of ruling) is he who hates it (i.e. the idea of ruling) most, till he is given the pledge of allegiance

Abu Huraira bataate hain: Nabi ne kaha, "Quraish qabile ko is maamle (yaani hukmarani ke haqq) mein logon par pahle haqq hai. Musalman unme se Musalmanon ki pairvi karte hain, aur kaafir unme se kaafiron ki. Log alag-alag prakriti ke hote hain: Jahiliyat ke daur mein sabse behtar, Islam mein bhi sabse behtar hain, bashart ke unhe deeni gyaan ho jaaye. Tum paoge ke ismein (yaani hukmarani mein) sabse behtar woh hai jo ise sabse zyada napasand karta hai, jab tak use bai'at nahi di jaati."
