Hadith text

Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari:I performed ablution in my house and then went out and said, "Today I shall stick to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and stay with him all this day of mine (in his service)." I went to the Mosque and asked about the Prophet . They said, "He had gone in this direction." So I followed his way, asking about him till he entered a place called Bir Aris. I sat at its gate that was made of date-palm leaves till the Prophet (ﷺ) finished answering the call of nature and performed ablution. Then I went up to him to see him sitting at the well of Aris at the middle of its edge with his legs uncovered, hanging in the well. I greeted him and went back and sat at the gate. I said, "Today I will be the gatekeeper of the Prophet." Abu Bakr came and pushed the gate. I asked, "Who is it?" He said, "Abu Bakr." I told him to wait, went in and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Abu Bakr asks for permission to enter." He said, "Admit him and give him the glad tidings that he will be in Paradise." So I went out and said to Abu Bakr, "Come in, and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) gives you the glad tidings that you will be in Paradise" Abu Bakr entered and sat on the right side of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) on the built edge of the well and hung his legs n the well as the Prophet (ﷺ) did and uncovered his legs. I then returned and sat (at the gate). I had left my brother performing ablution and he intended to follow me. So I said (to myself). "If Allah wants good for so-and-so (i.e. my brother) He will bring him here." Suddenly somebody moved the door. I asked, "Who is it?" He said, "`Umar bin Al-Khattab." I asked him to wait, went to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), greeted him and said, `Umar bin Al-Khattab asks the permission to enter." He said, "Admit him, and give him the glad tidings that he will be in Paradise." I went to "`Umar and said "Come in, and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), gives you the glad tidings that you will be in Paradise." So he entered and sat beside Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) on the built edge of the well on the left side and hung his legs in the well. I returned and sat (at the gate) and said, (to myself), "If Allah wants good for so-and-so, He will bring him here." Somebody came and moved the door. I asked "Who is it?" He replied, "Uthman bin `Affan." I asked him to wait and went to the Prophet (ﷺ) and informed him. He said, "Admit him, and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise, after a calamity that will befall him." So I went up to him and said to him, "Come in; Allah's Apostle gives you the glad tidings of entering Paradise after a calamity that will befall you. "Uthman then came in and found that the built edge of the well was occupied, so he sat opposite to the Prophet (ﷺ) on the other side. Sa`id bin Al-Musaiyab said, "I interpret this (narration) in terms of their graves

Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari bataate hain: Maine apne ghar mein wudu kiya aur phir bahar nikla aur kaha, "Aaj main Allah ke Rasool ke saath rahunga aur unke is poore din mein unki sewa mein saath dunga." Main masjid gaya aur Nabi ke baare mein pucha. Unhone kaha, "Woh is taraf gaye hain." Isliye main unke raaste par unke baare mein puchte huye chala, jab tak woh ek jagah pahunche jise Bir Aris kaha jata tha. Main uske darwaze par baitha jo khajoor ke patton se bana tha, jab tak Nabi qaza-e-hajat khatam karke wudu kar chuke. Phir main unke paas gaya unhe kue Aris ke kinare ke beech mein baithe dekha, apne paanv khule, kue mein latakte hue. Maine unhe salaam kiya aur wapas gaya aur darwaze par baith gaya. Maine kaha, "Aaj main Nabi ka darbaan banunga." Abu Bakr aaye aur darwaza dhakela. Maine pucha, "Kaun hai?" Unhone kaha, "Abu Bakr." Maine unhe intezaar karne ko kaha, andar gaya aur kaha, "Ya Allah ke Rasool! Abu Bakr andar aane ki ijazat maangte hain." Unhone kaha, "Unhe aane do aur unhe khushkhabri do ke woh Jannat mein honge." Isliye main bahar gaya aur Abu Bakr se kaha, "Andar aaiye, aur Allah ke Rasool aapko khushkhabri dete hain ke aap Jannat mein honge." Abu Bakr andar aaye aur Allah ke Rasool ke dahine taraf kue ki banaee hui kinaar par baithe aur apne paanv kue mein latkaye jaisa Nabi ne kiya tha aur apne paanv khole. Main phir wapas gaya aur baith gaya (darwaze par). Maine apne bhai ko wudu karte chhoda tha aur woh mera peecha karne wale the. Isliye maine (khud se) kaha, "Agar Allah falaan-falaan (yaani mere bhai) ke liye achhaee chahta hai, Woh unhe yahaan laega." Achanak kisi ne darwaza hilaya. Maine pucha, "Kaun hai?" Unhone kaha, "Umar bin Al-Khattab." Maine unhe intezaar karne ko kaha, Allah ke Rasool ke paas gaya, unhe salaam kiya aur kaha, "Umar bin Al-Khattab andar aane ki ijazat maangte hain." Unhone kaha, "Unhe aane do, aur unhe khushkhabri do ke woh Jannat mein honge." Main Umar ke paas gaya aur kaha "Andar aaiye, aur Allah ke Rasool, aapko khushkhabri dete hain ke aap Jannat mein honge." Isliye woh andar aaye aur Allah ke Rasool ke bagal mein kue ki banaee hui kinaar par baaee taraf baithe aur apne paanv kue mein latkaye. Main wapas gaya aur baith gaya (darwaze par) aur kaha, (khud se), "Agar Allah falaan-falaan ke liye achhaee chahta hai, Woh unhe yahaan laega." Koi aaya aur darwaza hilaya. Maine pucha "Kaun hai?" Usne jawab diya, "Uthman bin Affan." Maine unhe intezaar karne ko kaha aur Nabi ke paas gaya aur unhe bataya. Unhone kaha, "Unhe aane do, aur unhe Jannat mein daakhil hone ki khushkhabri do, ek museebat ke baad jo unpar aayegi." Isliye main unke paas gaya aur unse kaha, "Andar aaiye; Allah ke Rasool aapko Jannat mein daakhil hone ki khushkhabri dete hain, ek museebat ke baad jo aappar aayegi." Uthman phir andar aaye aur dekha ke kue ki banaee hui kinaar bhari hui thi, isliye woh Nabi ke saamne doosri taraf baithe. Sa'id bin Al-Musaiyab ne kaha, "Main is (riwaayat) ki vyaakhya unki qabron ke sandarbh mein karta hoon."
