Hadith text

Narrated Sa`d's father:When the emigrants reached Medina. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) established the bond of fraternity between `Abdur-Rahman and Sa`d bin Ar-Rabi. Sa`d said to `Abdur-Rahman, "I am the richest of all the Ansar, so I want to divide my property (between us), and I have two wives, so see which of the two you like and tell me, so that I may divorce her, and when she finishes her prescribed period (i.e. 'Idda) of divorce, then marry her." `Abdur-Rahman said, "May Allah bless your family and property for you; where is your market?" So they showed him the Qainuqa' market. (He went there and) returned with a profit in the form of dried yogurt and butter. He continued going (to the market) till one day he came, bearing the traces of yellow scent. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "What is this (scent)?" He replied, "I got married." The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "How much Mahr did you give her?" He replied, "I gave her a datestone of gold or a gold piece equal to the weight of a date-stone." (The narrator, Ibrahim, is in doubt as to which is correct)

Sa'd ke waalid bataate hain: Jab hijrat karne wale (yaani Muhajir) Madina pahunche, Allah ke Rasool ne Abdur-Rahman aur Sa'd bin Ar-Rabi ke beech bhaeechaara ka bandhan banaya. Sa'd ne Abdur-Rahman se kaha, "Main sab Ansaar mein sabse ameer hoon, isliye main apni jaidad taqseem karna chahta hoon (humare beech), aur meri do biwiyaan hain, isliye dekho tumhe in donon mein se kaunsi pasand hai aur mujhe batao, taake main use talaq de dun, aur jab woh apni Iddat (yaani talaq ki muddat) poori kar le, phir usse shaadi kar lena." Abdur-Rahman ne kaha, "Allah tumhare pariwara aur jaidad ko barkat de; tumhara bazaar kahaan hai?" Isliye unhone use Qainuqa bazaar dikhaya. (Woh wahaan gaye aur) munafe ke saath wapas aaye, dahi aur ghi ke roop mein. Woh (bazaar) jate rahe jab tak ek din woh peele rang ki khushbu ke asaraat ke saath aaye. Nabi ne pucha, "Yeh (khushbu) kya hai?" Unhone jawab diya, "Meri shaadi hui hai." Nabi ne pucha, "Tumne unhe kitna Mahr diya?" Unhone jawab diya, "Maine unhe sona ki ek khajoor ki gutli jitni maatra di ya khajoor ki gutli ke wazan jitna sona diya." (Raawi Ibrahim ko shak hai kaunsa sahi hai.)
