Hadith text

Narrated Qais bin Ubad:While I was sitting in the Mosque of Medina, there entered a man (Abdullah bin Salam) with signs of solemnity over his face. The people said, "He is one of the people of Paradise." He prayed two light rak`at and then left. I followed him and said, "When you entered the Mosque, the people said, 'He is one of the people of Paradise.' " He said, "By Allah, one ought not say what he does not know; and I will tell you why. In the lifetime of the Prophet (ﷺ) I had a dream which I narrated to him. I saw as if I were in a garden." He then described its extension and greenery. He added: In its center there was an iron pillar whose lower end was fixed in the earth and the upper end was in the sky, and at its upper end there was a (ring-shaped) hand-hold. I was told to climb it. I said, "I can't." "Then a servant came to me and lifted my clothes from behind and I climbed till I reached the top (of the pillar). Then I got hold of the hand-hold, and I was told to hold it tightly, then I woke up and (the effect of) the handhold was in my hand. I narrated all that to the Prophet (ﷺ) who said, 'The garden is Islam, and the handhold is the Most Truth-worthy Hand-Hold. So you will remain as a Muslim till you die." The narrator added: "The man was `Abdullah bin Salam

Qais bin Ubad bataate hain: Jabke main Madina ki masjid mein baitha tha, ek shaks (Abdullah bin Salam) aaya jinke chehre par sanjidgi ke asaraat the. Logon ne kaha, "Woh Jannat walon mein se hain." Unhone do halki rakaten padhi aur phir chale gaye. Main unke peeche gaya aur kaha, "Jab aap masjid mein daakhil hue, logon ne kaha, 'Woh Jannat walon mein se hain.'" Unhone kaha, "Allah ki qasam, kisi ko woh nahi kehna chahiye jo use pata nahi; aur main tumhe bataunga kyun. Nabi ki zindagi mein maine ek khwab dekha jise maine unhe sunaya. Maine khud ko ek baag mein dekha." Phir unhone uski vistriti aur hariyali ka varnan kiya. Unhone joda: Uske beech mein lohe ka ek khamba tha, jiska neeche wala hissa zameen mein gada hua tha aur oopar wala hissa aasman mein tha, aur uske oopar wale sire par ek (choodi jaisa) haath pakadne wala kunda tha. Mujhe uspar chadhne ko kaha gaya. Maine kaha, "Main nahi kar sakta." Phir ek naukar mere paas aaya aur mere kapde peeche se uthaye aur main chadha jab tak main khambe ke shikher tak pahuncha. Phir maine woh haath-pakadne wala hissa pakada, aur mujhe kaha gaya use mazbooti se pakadne ko, phir main jaag gaya aur (woh haath-pakadne wala hissa) mere haath mein tha. Maine yeh sab Nabi ko sunaya jinhone kaha, "Baag Islam hai, aur haath-pakadne wala hissa Sabse Bharosemand Sahaara hai. Isliye tum Musalman rahoge apni maut tak." Raawi ne joda: "Woh shaks Abdullah bin Salam the."
