Hadith text
Narrated Anas:When the news of the arrival of the Prophet (ﷺ) at Medina reached `Abdullah bin Salam, he went to him to ask him about certain things, He said, "I am going to ask you about three things which only a Prophet can answer: What is the first sign of The Hour? What is the first food which the people of Paradise will eat? Why does a child attract the similarity to his father or to his mother?" The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, "Gabriel has just now informed me of that." Ibn Salam said, "He (i.e. Gabriel) is the enemy of the Jews amongst the angels. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "As for the first sign of The Hour, it will be a fire that will collect the people from the East to the West. As for the first meal which the people of Paradise will eat, it will be the caudate (extra) lobe of the fish-liver. As for the child, if the man's discharge proceeds the woman's discharge, the child attracts the similarity to the man, and if the woman's discharge proceeds the man's, then the child attracts the similarity to the woman." On this, `Abdullah bin Salam said, "I testify that None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, and that you are the Messenger of Allah." and added, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Jews invent such lies as make one astonished, so please ask them about me before they know about my conversion to Islam. " The Jews came, and the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "What kind of man is `Abdullah bin Salam among you?" They replied, "The best of us and the son of the best of us and the most superior among us, and the son of the most superior among us. "The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "What would you think if `Abdullah bin Salam should embrace Islam?" They said, "May Allah protect him from that." The Prophet (ﷺ) repeated his question and they gave the same answer. Then `Abdullah came out to them and said, "I testify that None has the right to be worshipped except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah!" On this, the Jews said, "He is the most wicked among us and the son of the most wicked among us." So they degraded him. On this, he (i.e. `Abdullah bin Salam) said, "It is this that I was afraid of, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)
Anas bataate hain: Jab Nabi ke Madina aagman ki khabar Abdullah bin Salam tak pahunchi, woh unke paas kuch cheezon ke baare mein puchne gaye. Unhone kaha, "Main aapse teen aisi cheezon ke baare mein puchunga jinke baare mein sirf ek Nabi hi jawab de sakta hai: Qiyamat ki sabse pahli nishaani kya hai? Jannat wale sabse pahle kya khaenge? Bachcha apne baap ya apni maa se kyun milta-julta hai?" Nabi ne jawab diya, "Jibreel ne abhi mujhe yeh bataya hai." Ibn Salam ne kaha, "Woh (yaani Jibreel), farishton mein se, Yahudiyon ka dushman hai." Nabi ne kaha, "Jahaan tak Qiyamat ki sabse pahli nishaani ka sawal hai, yeh ek aag hogi jo logon ko purab se pashchim tak jama karegi. Jahaan tak Jannat wale sabse pahle kya khaenge iska sawal hai, woh machhli ke jigar ka extra hissa hoga. Jahaan tak bachche ka sawal hai, agar mard ka sraav aurat ke sraav se pahle nikle, bachcha mard se milta-julta hoga, aur agar aurat ka sraav pahle nikle, bachcha aurat se milta-julta hoga." Isspar, Abdullah bin Salam ne kaha, "Main gawahi deta hoon ke Allah ke siwa koee mabood nahi, aur aap Allah ke Rasool hain." Aur unhone joda, "Ya Allah ke Rasool! Yahudi aise jhoot gadhte hain ke insaan hairat mein pad jaata hai, isliye kripya mere baare mein unse puchiye isse pahle ke unhe mere Islam qubool karne ka pata chale." Yahudi aaye, aur Nabi ne pucha, "Abdullah bin Salam tum mein kaisa shaks hai?" Unhone jawab diya, "Humare beech sabse behtar, aur humare beech sabse behtar ka beta, aur humare beech sabse izzatdaar." Nabi ne pucha, "Tumhara kya khyaal hoga agar Abdullah bin Salam Islam qubool kar le?" Unhone kaha, "Allah use isse bacha rakhe." Nabi ne apna sawal dohraya aur unhone wahi jawab diya. Phir Abdullah unke saamne bahar aaye aur kaha, "Main gawahi deta hoon ke Allah ke siwa koee mabood nahi aur Muhammad Allah ke Rasool hain!" Isspar, Yahudiyon ne kaha, "Woh humare beech sabse bura hai, aur humare beech sabse bure ka beta." Isliye unhone unhe apmaanit kiya. Isspar, unhone (yaani Abdullah bin Salam ne) kaha, "Isi baat ka mujhe dar tha, Ya Allah ke Rasool."
