Hadith text

Narrated Abu Huraira:The Prophet (ﷺ) sent a Sariya of spies and appointed `Asim bin Thabit, the grandfather of `Asim bin `Umar bin Al-Khattab, as their leader. So they set out, and when they reached (a place) between 'Usfan and Mecca, they were mentioned to one of the branch tribes of Bani Hudhail called Lihyan. So, about one-hundred archers followed their traces till they (i.e. the archers) came to a journey station where they (i.e. `Asim and his companions) had encamped and found stones of dates they had brought as journey food from Medina. The archers said, "These are the dates of Medina," and followed their traces till they took them over. When `Asim and his companions were not able to go ahead, they went up a high place, and their pursuers encircled them and said, "You have a covenant and a promise that if you come down to us, we will not kill anyone of you." `Asim said, "As for me, I will never come down on the security of an infidel. O Allah! Inform Your Prophet about us." So they fought with them till they killed `Asim along with seven of his companions with arrows, and there remained Khubaib, Zaid and another man to whom they gave a promise and a covenant. So when the infidels gave them the covenant and promise, they came down. When they captured them, they opened the strings of their arrow bows and tied them with it. The third man who was with them said, "This is the first breach in the covenant," and refused to accompany them. They dragged him and tried to make him accompany them, but he refused, and they killed him. Then they proceeded on taking Khubaib and Zaid till they sold them in Mecca. The sons of Al-Harith bin `Amr bin Naufal bought Khubaib. It was Khubaib who had killed Al-Harith bin `Amr on the day of Badr. Khubaib stayed with them for a while as a captive till they decided unanimously to kill him. (At that time) Khubaib borrowed a razor from one of the daughters of Al- Harith to shave his pubic hair. She gave it to him. She said later on, "I was heedless of a little baby of mine, who moved towards Khubaib, and when it reached him, he put it on his thigh. When I saw it, I got scared so much that Khubaib noticed my distress while he was carrying the razor in his hand. He said 'Are you afraid that I will kill it? Allah willing, I will never do that,' " Later on she used to say, "I have never seen a captive better than Khubaib Once I saw him eating from a bunch of grapes although at that time no fruits were available at Mecca, and he was fettered with iron chains, and in fact, it was nothing but food bestowed upon him by Allah." So they took him out of the Sanctuary (of Mecca) to kill him. He said, "Allow me to offer a two-rak`at prayer." Then he went to them and said, "Had I not been afraid that you would think I was afraid of death, I would have prayed for a longer time." So it was Khubaib who first set the tradition of praying two rak`at before being executed. He then said, "O Allah! Count them one by one," and added, 'When I am being martyred as a Muslim, I do not care in what way I receive my death for Allah's Sake, because this death is in Allah's Cause. If He wishes, He will bless the cut limbs." Then `Uqba bin Al-Harith got up and martyred him. The narrator added: The Quraish (infidels) sent some people to `Asim in order to bring a part of his body so that his death might be known for certain, for `Asim had killed one of their chiefs on the day of Badr. But Allah sent a cloud of wasps which protected his body from their messengers who could not harm his body consequently

Abu Huraira bataate hain: Nabi ne jaasoson ka ek dasta bheja aur Asim bin Thabit, Asim bin Umar bin Al-Khattab ke dada, ko unka sardaar muqarrar kiya. Isliye woh chal pade, aur jab woh Usfan aur Mecca ke beech pahunche, unka zikar Hudhail qabile ki ek shaakha, Banu Lihyan, ke saamne hua. Isliye taquriban ek sau tirandaajon ne unka picha kiya jab tak woh (yaani tirandaaj) us jagah pahunche jahaan unhone (yaani Asim aur unke sathiyon ne) padaav daala tha aur wahaan unke khajoor ke gutliyaan paee jo woh Madina se khaane ke tor par laaye the. Tirandaajon ne kaha, "Yeh Madina ki khajoor hain," aur unka picha kiya jab tak woh unse aage nikal gaye. Jab Asim aur unke sathi aage nahi badh paye, woh ek oonchi jagah par chadhe, aur unka picha karne walon ne unhe gher liya aur kaha, "Tumhare paas ahad aur waada hai ke agar tum humare paas neeche aate ho, hum tum mein se kisi ko qatl nahi karenge." Asim ne kaha, "Jahaan tak mera sawal hai, main kabhi ek kaafir ki suraksha mein neeche nahi aunga. Aye Allah! Apne Nabi ko humare baare mein soochit kar." Isliye unhone unse jung ki jab tak unhone Asim ko aur unke saat sathiyon ko teer se qatl kar diya, aur Khubaib, Zaid, aur ek aur shaks bache jinse unhone ahad aur waada kiya. Isliye jab kaafiron ne unhe waada aur ahad diya, woh neeche aae. Jab unhone unhe pakad liya, unhone apne teer-kamanon ki doriyaan kholi aur unse unhe baandha. Teesra shaks jo unke saath tha, ne kaha, "Yeh ahad todne ka pahla nishaan hai," aur unke saath jane se inkaar kiya. Unhone unhe ghaseeta aur unse jane ka aagrah kiya, magar usne inkaar kiya, aur unhone unhe qatl kar diya. Phir woh Khubaib aur Zaid ko lekar gaye jab tak unhone unhe Mecca mein bech diya. Al-Harith bin Amr bin Naufal ke beton ne Khubaib ko khareeda. Yeh Khubaib the jinhone Al-Harith bin Amr ko Badr ki jung ke din qatl kiya tha. Khubaib kuch waqt unke paas ek qaidi ke roop mein raha jab tak unhone unhe qatl karne ka ekmat se faisla kiya. (Us waqt) Khubaib ne Al-Harith ki betiyon mein se ek se apne sharma-sthaan ke baal sadaane ke liye ek ustra udhaar maanga. Unhone unhe woh de diya. Woh baad mein kahti thi, "Main apne ek chhote bachche ki taraf be-dhyaan thi jo Khubaib ki taraf badha, aur jab woh unke paas pahuncha, unhone use apni raan par bithaya. Jab maine yeh dekha, main itna daraee ke Khubaib ne mera dar mahsoos kiya jabke woh apne haath mein ustra pakde hue the. Unhone kaha, 'Kya tumhe dar hai main ise qatl kar dunga? Insha Allah, main aisa kabhi nahi karunga.'" Baad mein woh kahti thi, "Maine kabhi Khubaib se behtar koee qaidi nahi dekha. Ek baar maine unhe angoor ke ek guchhe se khate dekha, chahe us waqt Mecca mein koee phal maujood nahi tha, aur woh lohe ki zanjeeron mein jakde the, aur asal mein, yeh koee aur nahi balki khaana tha jo Allah ne unhe diya." Isliye woh unhe (yaani Mecca ki) mahafooz seema se bahar le gaye unhe qatl karne ke liye. Unhone kaha, "Mujhe do rakat namaz padhne dijiye." Phir woh unke paas gaye aur kaha, "Agar mujhe dar na hota ke tum sochte ke main betaab hoon, main aur namaz padhta." Isliye Khubaib hi the jinhone do rakat padhne ki riwaj shuru ki isse pahle ke unhe fasi di jaye. Unhone phir kaha, "Aye Allah! Unhe ek-ek karke gino," aur joda, "Chunke main ek Musalman ke roop mein shaheed ho raha hoon, mujhe parwaah nahi kis tarike se meri maut hoti hai, Allah ki khaatir, kyunke yeh Allah ki raah mein hai. Agar Woh chaahe, Woh mere kate hue jism ke angon ko barkat dega." Phir Uqba bin Al-Harith uthe aur unhe shaheed kar diya. Raawi ne joda: Quraish ne kuch logon ko Asim ke paas unke jism ka ek hissa lane ke liye bheja taaki unki maut nishchit roop se jaani ja sake, kyunke Asim ne Badr ki jung ke din unke ek sardaar ko qatl kiya tha. Magar Allah ne bhadon (yaani wasps) ka ek jhund bheja jinhone unke jism ki raksha ki unke sandesh-vahakon se, jo unke jism ko koee bhi nuksaan pahunchane mein asamartha rahe.
