Narrated Sahl bin Abi Hathma:(describing the Fear prayer): The Imam stands up facing the Qibla and one batch of them (i.e. the army) (out of the two) prays along with him and the other batch faces the enemy. The Imam offers one rak`a with the first batch, then they themselves stand up alone and offer one bowing and two prostrations while they are still in their place, and then go away to relieve the second batch, and the second batch comes (and takes the place of the first batch in the prayer behind the Imam) and he offers the second rak`a with them. So he completes his two-rak`at and then the second batch bows and prostrates two prostrations (i.e. complete their second rak`a and thus all complete their prayer). (This hadith has also been narrated through two other chains by Sahl b. Abi Hathma)

Sahl bin Abi Hathma bataate hain (Salat-al-Khauf ka varnan karte huye): Imam Qibla ki taraf munh karke khada hota hai aur ek giroh (yaani fauj ka ek hissa) unke saath namaz padhta hai jabke doosra giroh dushman ka saamna karta hai. Imam pahle giroh ke saath ek rakat padhta hai, phir woh khud khade hote hain aur ek ruku aur do sajde karte hain, apni hi jagah par khade rahte huye, aur phir chale jate hain doosre giroh ko rahat dene ke liye, aur doosra giroh aata hai (aur Imam ke peeche namaz mein unki jagah leta hai) aur woh unke saath doosri rakat padhta hai. Isliye woh apni do rakaten poori karta hai, aur phir doosra giroh ruku karta hai aur do sajde karta hai (yaani apni doosri rakat poori karke, isi tarah sab apni namaz poori karte hain).
