Hadith text

Narrated Masruq bin Al-Ajda:Um Ruman, the mother of `Aisha said that while `Aisha and she were sitting, an Ansari woman came and said, "May Allah harm such and-such a person!" Um Ruman said to her, What is the matter?" She replied, "My son was amongst those who talked of the story (of the Slander)." Um Ruman said, "What is that?" She said, "So-and-so..." and narrated the whole story. On that `Aisha said, "Did Allah's Apostle hear about that?" She replied, "Yes." `Aisha further said, "And Abu Bakr too?" She replied, "Yes." On that, `Aisha fell down fainting, and when she came to her senses, she had got fever with rigors. I put her clothes over her and covered her. The Prophet (ﷺ) came and asked, "What is wrong with this (lady)?" Um Ruman replied, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! She (i.e. `Aisha) has got temperature with rigors." He said, "Perhaps it is because of the story that has been talked about?" She said, "Yes." `Aisha sat up and said, "By Allah, if I took an oath (that I am innocent), you would not believe me, and if I said (that I am not innocent), you would not excuse me. My and your example is like that of Jacob and his sons (as Jacob said ): 'It is Allah (Alone) Whose Help can be sought against that you assert.' Um Ruman said, "The Prophet (ﷺ) then went out saying nothing. Then Allah declared her innocence. On that, `Aisha said (to the Prophet), "I thank Allah only; thank neither anybody else nor you

Masruq bin Al-Ajda bataate hain: Um Ruman, Ayesha ki maa, ne kaha ke jabke Ayesha aur woh baithi thi, ek Ansaari aurat aee aur boli, "Allah aise-aise shaks ko nuksaan pahunchae!" Um Ruman ne unse kaha, "Kya baat hai?" Unhone jawab diya, "Mera beta un logon mein tha jinhone us kahani (yaani jhoote ilzaam) ke baare mein baat ki." Um Ruman ne pucha, "Woh kya hai?" Unhone kaha, "Falaan-falaan..." aur poori kahani sunaee. Ispar Ayesha ne kaha, "Kya Allah ke Rasool ne iske baare mein suna?" Unhone jawab diya, "Haan." Ayesha ne phir pucha, "Aur Abu Bakr bhi?" Unhone jawab diya, "Haan." Ispar, Ayesha behosh hokar gir gaee, aur jab unhe hosh aaya, unhe thand wale bukhaar ke saath bukhaar aa gaya. Maine unke kapde unke oopar daale aur unhe dhaanka. Nabi aaye aur pucha, "Ise (yaani Ayesha ko) kya hua hai?" Um Ruman ne jawab diya, "Ya Allah ke Rasool! Unhe (yaani Ayesha ko) thand wale bukhaar ke saath bukhaar aa gaya hai." Unhone kaha, "Shaayad yeh us kahani ki wajah se hai jo baat ki ja rahi hai?" Unhone kaha, "Haan." Ayesha uth baithi aur kaha, "Allah ki qasam, agar main qasam khaun (ke main begunah hoon), aap mujhpar vishwas nahi karenge, aur agar main (kahun ke main begunah nahi hoon), aap mujhe maaf nahi karenge. Meri aur aapki misaal Yaqoob aur unke beton jaisi hai (jaisa Yaqoob ne kaha): 'Sirf Allah (akele) hai jiski Madad maangi ja sakti hai us cheez ke khilaf jo tum daava karte ho.'" Um Ruman ne kaha, "Nabi phir kuch kahe bina bahar gaye. Phir Allah ne unki begunahi ka elaan kiya." Ispar, Ayesha ne (Nabi se) kaha, "Main sirf Allah ka shukriya ada karti hoon; na kisi aur ka na aapka."
