Hadith text
Narrated Tariq bin `Abdur-Rahman:When I set out for Hajj, I passed by some people offering a prayer, I asked, "What is this mosque?" They said, "This is the Tree where Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) took the Ar-Ridwan Pledge of allegiance. Then I went to Sa`id bin Musaiyab and informed him about it. Sa`id said, "My father said that he was amongst those who had given the Pledge of allegiance to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) beneath the Tree. He (i.e. my father) said, "When we set out the following year, we forgot the Tree and were unable to recognize it. "Then Sa`id said (perhaps ironically) "The companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) could not recognize it; nevertheless, you do recognize it; therefore you have a better knowledge
Tariq bin Abdur-Rahman bataate hain: Jab main Hajj ke liye nikla, main kuch logon ke paas se guzra jo namaz padh rahe the. Maine pucha, "Yeh kaunsi masjid hai?" Unhone kaha, "Yeh woh darakht hai jahaan Allah ke Rasool ne Ar-Ridwan bai'at li thi." Phir main Sa'id bin Musaiyab ke paas gaya aur unhe iske baare mein bataya. Sa'id ne kaha, "Mere waalid ne kaha ke woh un logon mein the jinhone Allah ke Rasool ko us darakht ke neeche bai'at di thi. Unhone (yaani mere waalid ne) kaha, 'Jab humne agle saal prasthaan kiya, hum darakht ko bhool gaye aur use pahchaanne mein asamartha rahe.'" Phir Sa'id ne kaha (shaayad vyangatmak tor par), "Nabi ke sahaba use pahchan nahi paye; phir bhi tum ise pahchante ho; isliye tumhe behtar gyaan hai."
