Sahih al-Bukhari 4179

Hadith text

Narrated Al-Miswar bin Makhrama and Marwan bin Al-Hakam:(one of them said more than his friend): The Prophet (ﷺ) set out in the company of more than onethousand of his companions in the year of Al-Hudaibiya, and when he reached Dhul-Hulaifa, he garlanded his Hadi (i.e. sacrificing animal), assumed the state of Ihram for `Umra from that place and sent a spy of his from Khuzi'a (tribe). The Prophet (ﷺ) proceeded on till he reached (a village called) Ghadir-al-Ashtat. There his spy came and said, "The Quraish (infidels) have collected a great number of people against you, and they have collected against you the Ethiopians, and they will fight with you, and will stop you from entering the Ka`ba and prevent you." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "O people! Give me your opinion. Do you recommend that I should destroy the families and offspring of those who want to stop us from the Ka`ba? If they should come to us (for peace) then Allah will destroy a spy from the pagans, or otherwise we will leave them in a miserable state." On that Abu Bakr said, "O Allah's Apostle! You have come with the intention of visiting this House (i.e. Ka`ba) and you do not want to kill or fight anybody. So proceed to it, and whoever should stop us from it, we will fight him." On that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Proceed on, in the Name of Allah

Al-Miswar bin Makhrama aur Marwan bin Al-Hakam bataate hain (unmein se ek ne doosre se zyada bataya): Nabi apne ek hazaar se zyada sathiyon ke saath Al-Hudaibiya ke saal nikle, aur jab woh Dhul-Hulaifa pahunche, unhone apni Hadi (yaani qurbani ke janwar) par malaen daali, Umrah ke liye us jagah se Ihram ki haalat dhaaran ki, aur Khuza'a qabile se apni ek jaasoos bheji. Nabi aage badhe jab tak woh Ghadir-al-Ashtat (naam ki jagah) pahunche. Wahaan unki jaasoos aee aur kaha, "Quraish (kaafiron) ne aapke khilaf bahut sare log jama kiye hain, aur unhone Ethiopiyon ko bhi aapke khilaf jama kiya hai, aur woh aapse jung karenge, aur aapko Ka'ba mein daakhil hone se rokenge aur aapko rok denge." Nabi ne kaha, "Aye logo! Mujhe apni raay do. Kya tum sujhaav dete ho ke main un logon ke pariwaron aur santanon ko barbaad kar dun jo humein Ka'ba se rokna chahte hain? Agar woh (sulha ke liye) humare paas aate hain, phir Allah kaafiron ki ek jaasoos ko barbaad karega, warna hum unhe ek buri sthiti mein chhod denge." Ispar Abu Bakr ne kaha, "Ya Allah ke Rasool! Aap is Ghar (yaani Ka'ba) ki ziyarat ke irade se aaye hain aur aap kisi ko qatl ya usse jung karna nahi chahte. Isliye ispar aage badhen, aur jo bhi humein isse rokne ki koshish kare, hum unse jung karenge." Ispar Nabi ne kaha, "Aage badho, Allah ke naam par."
