Hadith text

Narrated Ibn Abi `Aufa:We where afflicted with severe hunger on the day of Khaibar. While the cooking pots were boiling and some of the food was well-cooked, the announcer of the Prophet (ﷺ) came to say, "Do not eat anything of the donkey-meat and upset the cooking pots." We then thought that the Prophet (ﷺ) had prohibited such food because the Khumus had not been taken out of it. Some others said, "He prohibited the meat of donkeys from the point of view of principle, because donkeys used to eat dirty things

Ibn Abi Aufa bataate hain: Khaibar ke din humein sakht bhookh ka saamna karna pada. Jabke khaane ke bartan ubal rahe the aur kuch khaana achhi tarah pak chuka tha, Nabi ke elaan karne wale aaye aur kaha, "Gadhon ka gosht mat khao aur bartan khali kar do." Ispar humne socha Nabi ne aisa khaana isliye mana kiya kyunke usmein se Khumus (yaani paanchvaan hissa) nahi liya gaya tha. Kuch doosron ne kaha, "Unhone gadhon ka gosht siddhant ke tor par mana kiya, kyunke gadhe gaandi cheezein khate the."
