Hadith text
Narrated Abu Musa:The news of the migration of the Prophet (from Mecca to Medina) reached us while we were in Yemen. So we set out as emigrants towards him. We were (three) I and my two brothers. I was the youngest of them, and one of the two was Abu Burda, and the other, Abu Ruhm, and our total number was either 53 or 52 men from my people. We got on board a boat and our boat took us to Negus in Ethiopia. There we met Ja`far bin Abi Talib and stayed with him. Then we all came (to Medina) and met the Prophet (ﷺ) at the time of the conquest of Khaibar. Some of the people used to say to us, namely the people of the ship, "We have migrated before you." Asma' bint 'Umais who was one of those who had come with us, came as a visitor to Hafsa, the wife of the Prophet (ﷺ). She had migrated along with those other Muslims who migrated to Negus. `Umar came to Hafsa while Asma' bint 'Umais was with her. `Umar, on seeing Asma,' said, "Who is this?" She said, "Asma' bint 'Umais," `Umar said, "Is she the Ethiopian? Is she the sea-faring lady?" Asma' replied, "Yes." `Umar said, "We have migrated before you (people of the boat), so we have got more right than you over Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) " On that Asma' became angry and said, "No, by Allah, while you were with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) who was feeding the hungry ones amongst you, and advised the ignorant ones amongst you, we were in the far-off hated land of Ethiopia, and all that was for the sake of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) . By Allah, I will neither eat any food nor drink anything till I inform Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) of all that you have said. There we were harmed and frightened. I will mention this to the Prophet (ﷺ) and will not tell a lie or curtail your saying or add something to it
Abu Musa bataate hain: Nabi ki (Mecca se Madina) hijrat ki khabar humtak pahunchi jabke hum Yemen mein the. Isliye hum unki taraf Muhajir ke roop mein nikle. Hum (teen) the — main aur mere do bhai. Main unmein sabse chhota tha, aur unmein se ek Abu Burda the aur doosre Abu Ruhm, aur humari kul sankhya terpan ya baawan (52 ya 53) log the meri qaum se. Hum ek jahaaz mein sawar hue aur humara jahaaz humein Ethiopia mein Negus tak le gaya. Wahaan humein Ja'far bin Abi Talib mile aur hum unke saath ruke. Phir hum sab (Madina) aaye aur Nabi se Khaibar ki fatah ke waqt mile. Kuch log humse kahte, yaani jahaaz ke log, "Humne tumse pahle hijrat ki." Asma bint Umais, jo hamare saath aee thi unmein se ek thi, Hafsa se milne gaee, jo Nabi ki biwi thi. Woh un doosre Musalmanon ke saath hijrat karke aee thi jinhone Negus ki taraf hijrat ki thi. Umar Hafsa ke paas aaye jabke Asma bint Umais unke saath thi. Umar ne, Asma ko dekhkar, kaha, "Yeh kaun hai?" Unhone kaha, "Asma bint Umais." Umar ne kaha, "Kya woh wahi Ethiopian hai? Kya woh wahi samundri yaatra karne wali mahila hai?" Asma ne jawab diya, "Haan." Umar ne kaha, "Humne tumse (aye jahaaz ke logo) pahle hijrat ki, isliye humara Allah ke Rasool par tumse zyada haqq hai." Ispar Asma naraj ho gaee aur kaha, "Nahi, Allah ki qasam, jabke tum Allah ke Rasool ke saath the jo tummein se bhooke logon ko khilate the aur naadanon ko naseehat dete the, hum door-daraz Ethiopia ki napasand ki huee zameen mein the, aur woh sab Allah ke Rasool ki khaatir thi. Allah ki qasam, na main koee khaana khaungi na koee cheez piungi jab tak main Allah ke Rasool ko yeh sab jo tumne kaha nahi bata deti. Wahaan humein takleef aur dar mila. Main yeh Nabi ko bataungi aur na jhoot bolungi na tumhari baat kam karungi na kuch jodungi."
