Sahih al-Bukhari 4359

Hadith text

Narrated Jarir:While I was at Yemen, I met two men from Yemen called Dhu Kala and Dhu `Amr, and I started telling them about Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). Dhu `Amr said to me, "If what you are saying about your friend (i.e. the Prophet) is true, then he has died three days ago." Then both of them accompanied me to Medina, and when we had covered some distance on the way to Medina, we saw some riders coming from Medina. We asked them and they said, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) has died and Abu Bakr has been appointed as the Caliph and the people are in a good state.' Then they said, "Tell your friend (Abu Bakr) that we have come (to visit him), and if Allah will, we will come again." So they both returned to Yemen. When I told Abu Bakr their statement, he said to me, "I wish you had brought them (to me)." Afterwards I met Dhu `Amr, and he said to me, "O Jarir! You have done a favor to me and I am going to tell you something, i.e. you, the nation of 'Arabs, will remain prosperous as long as you choose and appoint another chief whenever a former one is dead. But if authority is obtained by the power of the sword, then the rulers will become kings who will get angry, as kings get angry, and will be delighted as kings get delighted

Jarir bataate hain: Jabke main Yemen mein tha, meri mulaqaat do Yemeni logon se huee jinke naam Dhu Kala aur Dhu Amr the, aur maine unhe Allah ke Rasool ke baare mein batana shuru kiya. Dhu Amr ne mujhse kaha, "Agar jo aap apne doost (yaani Nabi) ke baare mein kah rahe hain sach hai, phir unka intiqal teen din pahle ho chuka hai." Phir donon mere saath Madina aaye, aur jab humne Madina ke raste par kuch doori tay ki, humne kuch sawaron ko Madina se aate dekha. Humne unse pucha aur unhone kaha, "Allah ke Rasool ka intiqal ho gaya hai aur Abu Bakr ko Khalifa muqarrar kiya gaya hai, aur log achhi sthiti mein hain." Phir unhone kaha, "Apne dost (yaani Abu Bakr) se kahiye ke hum aaye (unse milne), aur agar Allah ne chaha, hum phir aenge." Isliye donon Yemen wapas gaye. Jab maine unki baat Abu Bakr ko bataee, unhone mujhse kaha, "Kaash tum unhe (mere paas) le aate." Baad mein maine Dhu Amr se mulaqaat ki, aur unhone mujhse kaha, "Aye Jarir! Aapne mujhpar ek ehsaan kiya hai aur main aapko kuch batane ja raha hoon, yaani, tum, Arbon ki qaum, tabtak samriddh rahoge jab tak tum har baar ek purane sardaar ki maut ke baad ek doosra sardaar chunte aur muqarrar karte rahoge. Magar agar hukumat talwaar ki taakat se hasil ki jaati hai, phir hukmaran (aise) baadshah bane jaenge jo naraaj honge jaise baadshah naraaj hote hain, aur khushi honge jaise baadshah khushi hote hain."
