Narrated Abu Huraira:The Prophet (ﷺ) sent some cavalry towards Najd and they brought a man from the tribe of Banu Hanifa who was called Thumama bin Uthal. They fastened him to one of the pillars of the Mosque. The Prophet went to him and said, "What have you got, O Thumama?" He replied," I have got a good thought, O Muhammad! If you should kill me, you would kill a person who has already killed somebody, and if you should set me free, you would do a favor to one who is grateful, and if you want property, then ask me whatever wealth you want." He was left till the next day when the Prophet (ﷺ) said to him, "What have you got, Thumama? He said, "What I told you, i.e. if you set me free, you would do a favor to one who is grateful." The Prophet (ﷺ) left him till the day after, when he said, "What have you got, O Thumama?" He said, "I have got what I told you. "On that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Release Thumama." So he (i.e. Thumama) went to a garden of date-palm trees near to the Mosque, took a bath and then entered the Mosque and said, "I testify that None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, and also testify that Muhammad is His Apostle! By Allah, O Muhammad! There was no face on the surface of the earth most disliked by me than yours, but now your face has become the most beloved face to me. By Allah, there was no religion most disliked by me than yours, but now it is the most beloved religion to me. By Allah, there was no town most disliked by me than your town, but now it is the most beloved town to me. Your cavalry arrested me (at the time) when I was intending to perform the `Umra. And now what do you think?" The Prophet (ﷺ) gave him good tidings (congratulated him) and ordered him to perform the `Umra. So when he came to Mecca, someone said to him, "You have become a Sabian?" Thumama replied, "No! By Allah, I have embraced Islam with Muhammad, Apostle of Allah. No, by Allah! Not a single grain of wheat will come to you from Yamamah unless the Prophet gives his permission

Abu Huraira bataate hain: Nabi ne Najd ki taraf kuch ghudswaron ko bheja aur woh Banu Hanifa qabile ke ek shaks ko laye jinka naam Thumama bin Uthal tha. Unhone unhe masjid ke ek khambe se baandha. Nabi unke paas gaye aur kaha, "Tumhare paas kya hai, Aye Thumama?" Unhone jawab diya, "Mere paas ek achha vichaar hai, Aye Muhammad! Agar aap mujhe qatl karte hain, aap ek aise shaks ko qatl karenge jisne pahle hi kisi ko qatl kiya hai, aur agar aap mujhe azad karte hain, aap ek aise shaks ka ehsaan karenge jo shukrguzaar hai, aur agar aap jaidad chahte hain, phir mujhse jitna daulat chahiye pucha lijiye." Unhe agle din tak chhod diya gaya jab Nabi ne unse kaha, "Tumhare paas kya hai, Thumama? Unhone kaha, "Woh jo maine aapko bataya, yaani agar aap mujhe azad karte hain, aap ek shaks ka ehsaan karenge jo shukrguzaar hai." Nabi ne unhe agle din tak chhod diya, jab unhone kaha, "Tumhare paas kya hai, Aye Thumama?" Unhone kaha, "Mere paas woh hai jo maine aapko bataya." Ispar Nabi ne kaha, "Thumama ko azad karo." Isliye woh (yaani Thumama) masjid ke qareeb khajoor ke darakhton ke ek baag mein gaye, ghusal kiya aur phir masjid mein daakhil hue aur kaha, "Main gawahi deta hoon ke Allah ke siwa koee mabood nahi, aur main yeh bhi gawahi deta hoon ke Muhammad unke Rasool hain! Allah ki qasam, Aye Muhammad! Zameen ki satha par koee chehra aisa nahi tha jise main aapke chehre se zyada napasand karta tha, magar ab aapka chehra mujhe sabse pyara chehra ban gaya hai. Allah ki qasam, koee deen aisa nahi tha jise main aapke deen se zyada napasand karta tha, magar ab yeh mujhe sabse pyara deen hai. Allah ki qasam, koee sheher aisa nahi tha jise main aapke sheher se zyada napasand karta tha, magar ab yeh mujhe sabse pyara sheher hai. Aapke ghudswaron ne mujhe pakda jabke main Umrah karne ka irada kar raha tha. Ab aapki kya raay hai?" Nabi ne unhe khushkhabri di (badhaee di) aur unhe Umrah karne ka hukum diya. Isliye jab woh Mecca aaye, kisi ne unse kaha, "Kya aap Sabian ban gaye ho?" Thumama ne jawab diya, "Nahi! Allah ki qasam, maine Muhammad, Allah ke Rasool, ke saath Islam qubool kiya hai.
