Hadith text
Aisha added, "I argued with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) repeatedly about that matter (i.e. his order that Abu Bakr should lead the people in prayer in his place when he was ill), and what made me argue so much, was, that it never occurred to my mind that after the Prophet, the people would ever love a man who had taken his place, and I felt that anybody standing in his place, would be a bad omen to the people, so I wanted Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to give up the idea of choosing Abu Bakr (to lead the people in prayer)
Aisha ne aage kaha: 'Maine Allah ke Rasool (SAW) se is baat par (yaani unka ye hukm ke bimari mein Abu Bakr unki jagah namaz padhaayein) baar baar bahas ki, aur itni zyada bahas karne ki wajah ye thi ke mere zehen mein kabhi ye baat nahi aayi thi ke Nabi (SAW) ke baad log unki jagah lene waale kisi shaks se mohabbat karenge, aur mujhe laga ke jo bhi unki jagah khada hoga uske liye ye logon ki nazar mein badshugooni (bad-faal) hogi, is liye main chahti thi ke Allah ke Rasool (SAW) Abu Bakr ko (is kaam ke liye) chunne ka iraada chhod dein.'
