Hadith text
Narrated `Abdullah bin Ka`b:I heard Ka`b bin Malik talking about the Verse:-- 'And to the three (He also forgave) who remained behind.' (9.118) saying in the last portion of his talk, "(I said), 'As a part (sign) of my repentance, I would like to give up all my property in the cause of Allah and His Apostle,' The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, 'Keep some of your wealth as it is good for you." (To the three (He also forgave) who remained behind till for them the earth, vast as it is, was straitened
Abdullah bin Ka'b bataate hain: Maine Ka'b bin Malik ko is Aayat ke baare mein baat karte suna, 'Aur un teen logon ko bhi (Allah ne maaf kiya) jo peechhe reh gaye the' (9:118), aur apni baat ke aakhri hisse mein unhone kaha, '(Maine kaha), "Apni tauba ke ek hisse ke taur par, main apna sara maal Allah aur uske Rasool ki raah mein de dena chahta hoon." Nabi (SAW) ne mujhse kaha, "Apna kuch maal apne paas rakh lo, ye tumhare liye behtar hai."' Aur un teen logon ko bhi (Allah ne maaf kiya) jo peechhe reh gaye the, yahaan tak ke unke liye zameen, itni wasee hote hue bhi, tang ho gayi thi.
