Hadith text

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:I intended to ask `Umar about those two ladies who back each other against 'Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) . For one year I was seeking the opportunity to ask this question, but in vain, until once when I accompanied him for Hajj. While we were in Zahran, `Umar went to answer the call of nature and told me to follow him with some water for ablution. So I followed him with a container of water and started pouring water for him. I found it a good opportunity to ask him, so I said, "O chief of the Believers! Who were those two ladies who had backed each other (against the Prophet)?" Before I could complete my question, he replied, "They were `Aisha and Hafsa

Ibn Abbas bataate hain: Maine Umar se un do khaatoonon ke baare mein poochne ka iraada kiya jinhone Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ke khilaaf ek doosre ka saath diya tha. Ek saal tak main is sawaal ke liye mauqa dhoondhta raha magar be-faayda, yahaan tak ke ek baar main Hajj ke liye unke saath gaya. Jab hum Zahran mein the, Umar qaza-e-haajat ke liye gaye aur mujhse kaha ke main wuzu ka paani lekar unke peechhe aaun. To main paani ka bartan lekar unke peechhe gaya aur unhein paani daalne laga. Mujhe ye ek achha mauqa laga unse poochne ka, to maine kaha, 'Aye Ameer-ul-Momineen! Wo do khaatoonein kaun thin jinhone (Nabi ke khilaaf) ek doosre ka saath diya tha?' Maine apna sawaal poora bhi nahi kiya tha ke unhone jawab diya, 'Wo Aisha aur Hafsa thin.'
