Hadith text

Narrated Ibrahim:The companions of `Abdullah (bin Mas`ud) came to Abu Darda', (and before they arrived at his home), he looked for them and found them. Then he asked them,: 'Who among you can recite (Qur'an) as `Abdullah recites it?" They replied, "All of us." He asked, "Who among you knows it by heart?" They pointed at 'Alqama. Then he asked Alqama. "How did you hear `Abdullah bin Mas`ud reciting Surat Al-Lail (The Night)?" Alqama recited: 'By the male and the female.' Abu Ad-Darda said, "I testify that I heard me Prophet reciting it likewise, but these people want me to recite it:-- 'And by Him Who created male and female.' but by Allah, I will not follow them

Ibrahim bataate hain: Abdullah (bin Masud) ke saathi Abu Darda ke paas aaye, (unke ghar pahunchne se pehle) unhone unhein dhoondh liya. Phir unhone pucha, 'Tum mein se kaun Quran waise padh sakta hai jaise Abdullah padhte hain?' Unhone kaha, 'Hum sab.' Unhone pucha, 'Tum mein se kise ye zabaani yaad hai?' Unhone Alqama ki taraf ishara kiya. Phir unhone Alqama se pucha, 'Tumne Abdullah bin Masud ko Surah Al-Lail (Raat) kaise padhte suna?' Alqama ne padha, 'Mard aur aurat ki qasam.' Abu Ad-Darda ne kaha, 'Main gawaahi deta hoon ke maine Nabi (SAW) ko bhi isi tarah padhte suna hai, magar ye log chahte hain ke main ise "Aur us (Zaat) ki qasam jisne mard aur aurat ko banaaya" padhun. Magar Allah ki qasam, main inki baat nahi maanunga.'
