Book 66: Virtues of the Qur'an · Hadith 11

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ يُونُسَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَنَّ ابْنَ السَّبَّاقِ، قَالَ إِنَّ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ أَرْسَلَ إِلَىَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ إِنَّكَ كُنْتَ تَكْتُبُ الْوَحْىَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَاتَّبِعِ الْقُرْآنَ‏.‏ فَتَتَبَّعْتُ حَتَّى وَجَدْتُ آخِرَ سُورَةِ التَّوْبَةِ آيَتَيْنِ مَعَ أَبِي خُزَيْمَةَ الأَنْصَارِيِّ لَمْ أَجِدْهُمَا مَعَ أَحَدٍ غَيْرَهُ ‏{‏لَقَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ‏}‏ إِلَى آخِرِهِ‏.‏

Narrated Zaid bin Thabit:Abu Bakr sent for me and said, "You used to write the Divine Revelations for Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) : So you should search for (the Qur'an and collect) it." I started searching for the Qur'an till I found the last two Verses of Surat at-Tauba with Abi Khuza`ima Al-Ansari and I could not find these Verses with anybody other than him. (They were): 'Verily there has come unto you an Apostle (Muhammad) from amongst yourselves. It grieves him that you should receive any injury or difficulty

Zaid bin Thabit bataate hain: Abu Bakr ne mujhe bulwaaya aur kaha, 'Tum Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ke liye wahi likha karte the, isliye tumhein Quran ko dhoondh kar jama karna chaahiye.' Maine Quran dhoondhna shuru kiya yahaan tak ke Surah At-Tauba ki aakhri do Aayaten mujhe Abi Khuzaima Al-Ansari ke paas milin, aur mujhe wo kisi aur ke paas nahi milin. (Wo Aayaten thin:) 'Beshak tumhaare paas tum mein se hi ek Rasool (Muhammad) aaya hai. Use tumhaari takleef aur mushkilaat par bahut dukh hota hai...'
