Hadith text

Narrated Anas bin Malik: "Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) passed by (my mother Um-Sulaim) he used to enter her and greet her. Anas further said: Once the Prophet (ﷺ) way a bridegroom during his marriage with Zainab, Um Sulaim said to me, "Let us give a gift to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ." I said to her, "Do it." So she prepared Haisa (a sweet dish) made from dates, butter and dried yoghurt and she sent it with me to him. I took it to him and he said, "Put it down," and ordered me to call some men whom he named, and to invite whomever I would meet. I did what he ordered me to do, and when I returned, I found the house crowded with people and saw the Prophet (ﷺ) keeping his hand over the Haisa and saying over it whatever Allah wished (him to say). Then he called the men in batches of ten to eat of it, and he said to them, "Mention the Name of Allah, and each man should eat of the dish the nearest to him." When all of them had finished their meals, some of them left and a few remained there talking, over which I felt unhappy. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) went out towards the dwelling places (of his wives) and I too, went out after him and told him that those people had left. Then he returned and entered his dwelling place and let the curtains fall while I was in (his) dwelling place, and he was reciting the Verses:-- 'O you who believe! Enter not the Prophet's house until leave is given you for a meal, (and then) not (as early as) to what for its preparation. But when you are invited, enter, and when you have taken your meals, disperse without sitting for a talk. Verily such (behavior) annoys the Prophet; and he would be shy of (asking) you (to go), but Allah is not shy of (telling you) the Truth.' Anas bin Malik bataate hain: Jab bhi Nabi (SAW) (meri maa) Umm Sulaim ke paas se guzarte, wo unke paas jaakar unhein salaam karte. Anas ne aage kaha: Ek baar Nabi (SAW) Zainab se apni shaadi ke waqt dulha the, Umm Sulaim ne mujhse kaha, 'Chalo Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ko ek tohfa dete hain.' Maine unse kaha, 'Aisa karo.' To unhone khajoor, makhan aur sukhi dahi se 'Haisa' (ek meethi cheez) banaayi aur mere saath unhein bhejwaayi. Main use unke paas laaya, unhone kaha, 'Ise neeche rakh do,' aur mujhe kuch mardon ka naam lekar bulaane ka hukm diya, aur jise bhi main milun use bhi bulaane ko kaha. Maine wahi kiya jo unhone hukm diya, aur jab main wapas aaya, to ghar logon se bhara paaya, aur maine dekha ke Nabi (SAW) apna haath Haisa par rakhe hue the aur usper Allah ki jo marzi thi wo kehte the. Phir unhone das-das ke gutt mein logon ko khaane ke liye bulaaya, aur unse kaha, 'Allah ka naam lo, aur har shaks apne saamne wali cheez khaaye.' Jab sab khaana khaa chuke, kuch chale gaye aur kuch wahi baithe baaten karte rahe, jispar mujhe be-araami hui. Phir Nabi (SAW) apni azwaaj ke gharon ki taraf gaye, aur main bhi unke peechhe gaya, aur unhein bataaya ke wo log chale gaye hain. Phir wo wapas aaye aur apne ghar mein daakhil hue aur parda gira diya jabke main (unke) ghar mein tha, aur wo ye Aayaten padh rahe the: 'Aye Iman waalo! Nabi ke gharon mein daakhil na ho jab tak khaane ke liye ijaazat na di jaaye, (aur phir) uski taiyaari ka intezaar karne ke liye mat baitho. Magar jab tumhein bulaaya jaaye, to daakhil ho, aur jab khaana khaa lo, to baaten karne ke liye baithe bagair chale jaao. Beshak aisa (rawaiya) Nabi ko takleef deta hai, aur wo tumse (jaane ko kehne mein) sharmaate hain, magar Allah haq (baat) kehne mein nahi sharmaata.' (33:53) Abu Uthman kehte hain: Anas ne kaha, 'Maine Nabi (SAW) ki das saal khidmat ki.'
