Hadith text

Narrated Sa`id bin Jubair:I said to Ibn `Umar, "If a man accuses his wife of illegal sexual intercourse (what is the judgment)?" He said, "Allah's Prophet separated the couple of Bani 'Ajlan (when the husband accused his wife for an illegal sexual intercourse). The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'Allah knows that one of you two IS a liar; so will one of you repent?' But they refused. He then again said, 'Allah knows that one of you two is a liar; so will one of you repent?' But they refused, whereupon he separated them by divorce." Aiyub (a subnarrator) said: `Amr bin Dinar said to me, "In the narration there is something which I do not see you mentioning, i.e. the husband said, "What about my money (Mahr)?' The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "You are not entitled to take back money, for if you told the truth you have already entered upon her (and consummated your marriage with her) and if you are a liar then you are less entitled to take it back

Saeed bin Jubair bataate hain: Maine Ibn Umar se kaha, 'Agar koi aadmi apni biwi par zina ka ilzaam lagaaye (to kya faisla hoga)?' Unhone kaha, 'Allah ke Nabi (SAW) ne Banu Ajlan ke jode ko alag kiya (jab shohar ne apni biwi par zina ka ilzaam lagaaya). Nabi (SAW) ne farmaya, "Allah jaanta hai tum mein se ek jhoota hai; to kya tum mein se koi tauba karega?" Magar unhone inkaar kiya. Unhone dobara kaha, "Allah jaanta hai tum mein se ek jhoota hai; to kya tum mein se koi tauba karega?" Magar unhone phir inkaar kiya, isper unhone unhein talaaq dekar alag kar diya.' Ravi Aiyub kehte hain: Amr bin Dinar ne mujhse kaha, 'Is riwayat mein ek baat hai jo tumne zikr nahi ki, yaani shohar ne kaha, "Mere maal (Mahr) ka kya hoga?" Nabi (SAW) ne kaha, "Tumhein maal wapas lene ka haq nahi, kyunke agar tumne sach kaha, to tum pehle hi unke paas ja chuke ho (aur shaadi poori kar chuke ho), aur agar tum jhoote ho, to tumhein isse bhi kam haq hai wapas lene ka."'
