Hadith text

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:My father died and left seven or nine girls and I married a matron. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to me, "O Jabir! Have you married?" I said, "Yes." He said, "A virgin or a matron?" I replied, "A matron." he said, "Why not a virgin, so that you might play with her and she with you, and you might amuse her and she amuse you." I said, " `Abdullah (my father) died and left girls, and I dislike to marry a girl like them, so I married a lady (matron) so that she may look after them." Jabir bin Abdullah bataate hain: Mere waalid ka intekaal hua aur unhone saat ya nau ladkiyaan chhodi, aur maine ek biwaa se nikaah kiya. Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ne mujhse pucha, 'Aye Jabir! Kya tumhaari shaadi ho gayi?' Maine kaha, 'Haan.' Unhone pucha, 'Kunwaari se ya biwaa se?' Maine jawab diya, 'Biwaa se.' Unhone kaha, 'Kunwaari se kyun nahi ki, taake tum uske saath aur wo tumhaare saath khel sakti, aur tum use hansaa sakte aur wo tumhein hansaa sakti?' Maine kaha, 'Abdullah (mere waalid) ka intekaal ho gaya aur unhone ladkiyaan chhodi hain, aur mujhe unke jaisi ek chhoti ladki se nikaah karna pasand nahi tha, isliye maine ek biwaa se nikaah kiya taake wo unki dekhbhaal kar sake.' Isper unhone kaha, 'Allah tumhein barkat de,' ya 'Ye achha hai.'
